OLIVIA
I angrily walked into the file room to go see Mike. I needed to confront him about this. I knew Harvey was telling the truth, but I wanted it to come from him.
"Can't fucking believe this." I muttered under my breath on the way. "Fucking esoteric."
"Liv?" I heard a female voice tap my shoulder as I walked.
I turned around to see a dark-haired woman, Rachel, standing in front of me.
"Rach, I'm really sorry, but—"
"I need your help. Personally."
I sighed and closed my eyes to regain my composure. As I opened them back up, I smiled. "What can I do to help?"
I really, really tried to push away the thought of the man I was sleeping with was lying to me, and the entire world for that matter, and Harvey had just told me after I'd adjusted to him.
"My father.. you know him, right?" Rachel rambled in front of me. "You're one of the only people here who does."
"I'm aware Robert Zane is your father. He can be a dick to Jessica sometimes, but he's okay." I said almost bluntly.
Rachel had told me about her father before. Robert Zane was one of the most powerful, important lawyers in New York. He was a good father to Rachel too, but he had been a bit too pushy with her. Always asking her when was she finally gonna take the LSATs and become a lawyer, when she was gonna get out of her paralegal role, and things like that. Which was harsh. Really, really harsh.
"He's.. meeting me for lunch tomorrow." Rachel tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "I just needed some advice."
"You need me to write a script for what you're gonna say to your dad?" I quipped sarcastically, and I laughed a bit as she did too.
"I just need to ask how you would handle the situation."
"Why me?"
"You have Harvey Specter for a brother. I'm sure he's.. pushed you around a bit before."
Which brought me right back to the topic my head had been trying to clear out. Harvey lying to me after expecting me to be best friends with Mike Ross. Which, honestly, seems a bit pushing around-ish to me.
"He has." I nodded. "My advice? You don't take his shit."
Rachel looked a bit taken aback. "He's my father."
"You're right. But you aren't always family when you're in this industry, Rach." I shrugged a bit. The advice I was giving her was probably not.. given in the right mind, but she didn't know that.
"So what do I..?"
"If he tries to push you around again with the questioning, you tell him that you'll do it in your own time instead of you being a pushover."
"Right." The woman in front of me smiled. "Thank you, Liv."
"No problem." I smiled back.
I don't know if she sensed something was wrong, and I really hope she didn't.
Yeah, okay, I hated Mike for what he did, but I'm not risking him and everyone going to jail over this shit.
My heels clicked on the hallway ground as I pushed the door shut the second I entered the file room.
"Great. I needed you here." Mike smiled softly, as I stayed stoic. "Louis took me to his tennis club a while ago, the coach was fond of you. And you'll never believe—"
