I went back to the firm that night, because I needed to look through documents. It was pretty late, so it was pretty much just the sound of my heels echoing through the building lobby.
"Uhm.. excuse me?" I heard a female voice behind me.
I stopped in my tracks and turned around. In front of me was a pretty, blonde girl who looked like she could bat her long eyelashes at anyone in order to get what she wanted.
"Can I help you?" I smiled softly at the woman, recognizing her from Mike's Facebook page. Holy shit. This was his ex-girlfriend; Jenny Griffith.
"That'd be great, actually." She laughed a bit. "You're Olivia Specter, right? I'm Jenny Griffith. Mike Ross's.. old friend. He's said a lot about you; and you might find it weird on how I knew your face and—" She trailed on.
I let out a dry laugh nodded, "Well, it's nice to meet you, Miss Griffith. And.. don't worry. I don't think about how people know me. I think about what they need me for. Legal representation.. or.." I trailed off, hoping for her to finish it for me.
"Right. Mike said you were straight to the point." The woman was carrying a box filled with items and a paper bag that looked like it had perfectly neat folded clothes inside of it.
Not that I was staring, I'm just observant.
"Just gotta know if this is worth my time." I said with a slight undertone.
"Can you direct me to your offices..? I just really have to give these to Mike. They're his old things that he left at my apartment, and—" She cut herself off. "I don't want to see them anymore."
I could see her choking back tears, and I felt bad. I've never really committed myself into a relationship. Whenever I felt something genuine coming from myself or the guy, I'd bolt.
"I can have someone bring them up for you." Then I got the most genius idea known to man. "Better yet, I can bring them up for you. If you don't wanna see Mike—"
"That'd be great!" She quickly handed me the things.
I fumbled a bit and let out a little laugh; which was because I got full advantage of Mike Ross's shit. And I never pry, ever, but he's an asshole and I wanted to make the most out of this opportunity.
"Thanks again, Miss Specter." Jenny seemed genuinely relieved she didn't have to see Mike. "I'm just.. really not comfortable with seeing him again. And he's said nothing but bad things about you.. it was kind of intimidating actually. To be honest, I never believed him."
Ha! This dickhead thought he could paint a picture of me being a bad person to this girl; but jokes on you, Mike, she has common sense.
"I never believed him because Mike never spoke that lowly of someone." She scoffed lightly. "You're different." She smiled at me and walked away; she turned at me to nod and just continued to exit the building.
What the hell? What did she mean by that?
Anyway, I got to the elevator and there was a stupid tie that fell on the ground. It was skinny and dark blue with stripes that were a lighter shade of blue.
"God." I muttered and picked up the tie. I then had a good thought; hey, what if I keep this just to mess with him?
So, I did. I giggled to myself. What a mastermind, don't you think?
The elevator reached the floor of the office, and I walked all the way to my office carrying the box and the paper bag; but something caught my eye.
It was a little Polaroid of a little boy and his parents. On the bottom of the picture, it wrote: "My Family. The Ross Family."
