𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧 poured harder than ever. David loved the rain though. It was calming and refreshing. He watched the rain fall as the sound of his parents arguing in the background grew louder. David tried everything to block them out but it just was too overpowering.
They were arguing about him. Recently David witnessed a murder. His dad, Gabriel was a police officer who was helping detectives on a case. David saw the suspect kill someone right in front of him. That someone was his best friend, Laila. She wasn't supposed to die. That's what David always told himself.
But after seeing it firsthand, Gabriel thought it would be a good idea for David to testify. His mom, Daniella didn't want her son up in court testifying against a killer, that could possibly have him killed.
As the rain continued to pour, David pulled out his phone and FaceTimed Darrian. A friend that he made through Laila. They're not close but lately they've been talking a lot.
"Hey David," Darrian said with a yawn
"Hi. Parents are fighting again. If it wasn't raining I'd drive over to see you," David said
"Please don't drive in rain. I don't want nothing happening to you," Darrian said seriously
A few months ago, Darrian got a call that his father was involved in a fatal car accident that took his life and two other people. But the accident was caused by a drunk driver driving in the rain.
Ever since then, he's been extra extra cautious when it comes to being in the rain and driving in the rain.
"Darrian's nothing gonna happen to me," David said
"You don't know that! I don't wanna get a call saying that you were killed!" Darrian said loudly
Silence.
All they heard was the rain. David thought about Laila and Darrian thought about his father. Both were reliving the past. That tragic moment where everything changed.
"I'm sorry," Darrian said lowly
"It's...it's okay. I'll call you tomorrow or something. I need to sleep," David said
"Yeah me too. Goodnight," Darrian said
"Night," David said
He ended the call and retreated to his room. He sat on his bed staring at his phone. He was looking at Darrian's instagram, there was one post where Darrian talked about losing his dad. David felt a twinge in his stomach as he read the caption. He knew exactly how Darrian felt.
Broken, lost, miserable.
David felt the same way when Laila died. It all happened right in front of him. He couldn't do anything to save her or stop the killer.
David shut his phone off and then drifted off to sleep.

There laid Darrian, he was thinking about the good memories he and his dad shared. Then David popped in his mind. He couldn't stop thinking about him. They shared quite a few things.
Pain, heartbreak, 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐦𝐚.
Darrian wanted to wipe away all the pain that they went through but he knew it was impossible. He relied heavily upon David and vice versa. The two of them were bonded together through the tragedies they've endured.
