Night laid upon them and the Black Pearl was in their sight. Thalassa looked over the edge of the ship and watched the waves with hungry eyes. She wanted to venture back to the island and save Will. Then, a man grabbed her arm. "The Commodore requests you stay in the captain's quarters to assure your safety," he explained. Thalassa did not fight him, instead, she blushed and happily followed his lead.
"He's concerned for my safety?" Thalassa asked.
"He's required you and Miss Swann to stay in his quarters until further notice," the man further explained. Thalassa's shoulders dropped and she watched Norrington and Elizabeth argue about something next to the door to his quarters.
"Alright. I will...wait here for Elizabeth." Thalassa said. The man nodded and marched away. Thalassa leaned back onto the wood railing and listened to Elizabeth and the Commodore have their first argument as a betrothed couple.
"He doesn't love you, mate," Jack said. She frowned at him.
"How did you get out of your cell?"
"Double hinges of barrels or something like that," Jack explained. "The more important question is why waste your time on someone who does not love you back? Hm?" Jack stepped closer to Thalassa but she looked away from him.
"He does love me," Nessa said. "He just can't because...because I have no status. I am merely a random girl adopted by a blacksmith." Jack moved to her other side.
"Who swears the waves speak to her." Jack cocked his brow and waited to see Thalassa's reaction. He loved getting a rise out of her. "Are they speaking to you now?" He looked down at the waves washing against the ship. "What are they saying to you, luv?"
Thalassa huffed at him and made her way to the captain's quarters. It was Elizabeth who put up the fight and was shoved inside before the door was locked behind her. She banged on the door with her fists several times before she slumped against the doors and slipped to the floor.
"We have to go and help them. He wouldn't listen to my warnings," Elizabeth angrily said. "he didn't believe me when I said the pirates cannot die." Thalassa stared at the floor. "Do you have anything to say?" Elizabeth snapped. She hated how quiet Nessa was being.
"You're using the commodore!" Thalassa snapped back. "As a wedding gift," she mocked. "Why do you use him? Do you even care for him at all? You're sending him to the island into a trap! All for the man whom you actually love! He was kind, sweet, and loving During our years of growing up. And all you did was use him." Thalassa sat down across the room from Elizabeth and ran her fingers through her tangled wavy hair.
"You love Norrington, don't you?" Elizabeth realized. Thalassa said nothing. "Why haven't you said anything?"
"Because he didn't choose me," Thalassa replied. "He chose you: the governor's daughter. And honestly, I do not blame him. Because I am a nobody. He might love us both but...he chose you."
Elizabeth looked down and twiddled with her fingers and then her hair. She looked down at her dress and the nat the window. That was when another brilliant idea came to mind.
Elizabeth raided the commodore's closet and changed into slacks and a jacket. Thalassa chose to stay in her white underdress. The girls ripped up the fabric of their dresses and tied it all into one long rope that strung down the window and into the water. They then rowed an empty boat that was tied to the ship to the Black Pearl.
Elizabeth climbed up the first side and then Thalassa. They snuck across the deck and ran down the small stairs where the crew of the Pearl crowded together in a cell.
"Thalassa!" Gibbs excitedly whispered. "Thank goodness." Nessa smiled at him and grabbed the iron bars with her hands and closed her eyes.
"Nessa?" Elizabeth asked with confusion.
"Double barrel hinges," Nessa whispered. She used all her might as she lifted the cell door and broke the hinges. Elizabeth helped her toss it away and the crew happily thanked them.
"I think all the pirates are on the Dauntless," Elizabeth said. "There aren't many here." The crew raced up the stairs. It was true, for there were only two pirates left to guard the Pearl. Elizabeth sliced the head off one and pushed it into the ocean, then she kicked the body overboard. Gibbs took care of the second one by throwing something heavy at it when it wasn't looking. The pirate was pushed overboard as well.
"Alright, everybody with me? Will is in that cave and we must save him!" Elizabeth ran to the boat and grabbed the rope that attached to the ship. "Ready, heave!" No one helped her, no one besides Thalassa. The rest stood in a line behind her. The girls turned around. "Please, I need your help, come on!"
"Well, we've got the Pearl," Gibbs said with a shrug.
"And what about Jack? You're just going to leave him? Elizabeth asked.
"Jack owes us a ship," a man said.
"And there's the code to consider," Gibbs added.
"The Code?" Thalassa asked. "You're pirates for bloody sake!" She shouted at them. "Hang the code and hang the rules!" They all just stared at her. "You're all greedy. And disgusting. You're filthy and you only care about yourselves and your ships."
They helped Elizabeth and Nessa lower the boat but they did not go with the girls. Nessa and Elizabeth angrily rowed the boat to the island and inside the caves. "Bloody pirates," Thalassa hissed.
Will was fighting a pirate and Jack was fighting Barbossa when the girls arrived in the treasure-filled cave. Elizabeth picked up a large pipe and knocked the pirate Will was fighting to the ground. Thalassa reached for his hand and helped him to his feet. Then, she turned and watched Jack and Barbossa fight in the moonlight. "Whose side is Jack on?" She asked him.
"At the moment?" He replied.
Three more undead pirates appeared when Thalassa spotted a sword with cobwebs on the handle amid the gold. She stalked backward and reached for the dirty handle. She pulled it from the ground and pointed it at the pirates who challenged her. He eerily chuckled at her. "What are you laughing at?" She asked him. "Never seen a woman stand up for herself?" Their swords clashed as the two fought around the piles of gold. Thalassa remembered everything Will taught her when they were little kids. Though it was hard, as she grew older and more worried about her status at the Port, she stopped fencing with Will. Thalassa stumbled on her feet and fell backward into some rocks. She yelped as she crawled away from the pirate who pointed his sword at her neck and continued his eerie laughter.
But then, a shot was fired. It echoed against the walls and the two turned their heads.
"Ten years you carry that pistol and now you waste your shot," Barbossa said to Jack.
"He didn't waste it." Will dropped the last medallion into the chest with his blood smeared on it.
Thalassa snapped her head back at the pirate and took her chance. She drove her sword into his chest and watched the man choke. Blood dripped down the sword and onto her hand. "Ew! Ew! Ew!" She crawled backward and watched the pirate fall onto his knees and die right before her. She watched him take his last breath and felt her heart ache.
"What did I do?" She whispered. Nessa looked at the blood on her hand and the splatters on her dress. She couldn't believe what she had just done. It was all coming to her in major shock. The island and the sailing and now the murder.
Jack helped Thalassa to her feet. "I-I just killed that man," she whimpered.
"I know. I know. Don't worry, it gets easier." Thalassa frowned at Jack and realized he was holding her waist. She looked down at his arms and then back at his face.
"Jack," she whispered.
"Yes, luv?" He whispered back. He liked holding her like that. He'd held lots of women before but there was something different about Nessa.
"Nothing." Thalassa shook her head. "Nothing." Jack released her waist and watched her walk away from him.
