The continuous ringing of the phone broke his deep slumber. He lazily picked up the phone, his eyes still closed as he answered without checking the caller ID.
"Hello," he muttered in his morning voice.
"Hello, Kaurav beta. Is Mahi with you?"
Hearing Ajji's panicked voice, all the sleep vanished from his eyes, and he sat up straight on the bed while rubbing his eyes and answered,
"Morning Ajji. What happen? Why are you so tensed?"
"Actually, beta, Mahi is not picking up his calls. I've been trying to call him since morning, and it is saying it is switched off. I thought he must have stayed at your place, so I called you. He's with you, na?" Asked a panicked Ajji.
Kaurav frowned while listening to Ajji. 'I thought he straightaway went home after our fight. And even I was mad at him, that's why I didn't call him either. If Mahir didn't go back home, then where is he?' He became tensed, but somehow tried to calm his voice before answering Ajji.
"Y-Yes, Yes, Ajji. He's with me only. Vo kya hai na kal raat late ho gaya tha event se aane mei, to vo yehi ruk gaya. Don't worry, he is sleeping here only."
(Actually, we came back late from the event, so he stayed here only.)
"Oh, thank God. For a second, I thought something was wrong. No worries baccha, you take rest. Just ask him to call me back whenever he gets up. Aur han, jb bhi aisa koi plan banao to mujhe bataya karo, ya message hi bhej diya karo. Pareshan kar dete ho dono." Ajji said, showing fake anger at the ends.
(And yes, whenever you plan something like this, inform me, or at least text me beforehand. You both always make me worry.)
"Sorry Ajji. We'll take care, for sure."
After Ajji hung up, tension took over Kaurav's features. He dialed Mahir's cell number, but as Ajji said, it was switched off. He got out of bed and started pacing around his room. He looked at the clock, and it showed 12 p.m. His eyes widened as panic rose over him.
'What the hell happened to this idiot now? He never does that.
Where the hell are you, Mahi? Kaha chala gaya hai tu yaara?'
Meanwhile
Even after hours of fidgeting here and there, Aarya could find no means of escape. All the while she was pacing here and there, Mahir was slowly following behind her like her tail. The whole room was a mess, with everything scattered all around. It became clear after some time that it was a hospital store room because of all the scalples, and scrubs and other equipment present there. There were even some used emoty blood bags that were just lying around.
Looking at them, Mahir was getting nervous. He was thinking of all the worst possible scenarios about bloodthirsty vampires and draculas, all thanks to those tvd and web series that Kaurav forced him to watch. So, to feel safe, he was running behind Aarya, just like a lost puppy runs behind his owner.
