Jack Dawkins One Shots

The Nurse Problem

It was a fairly average day in Port Victory Royal Hospital, with much the same patients as usual, Nothing overly exciting. Jack headed in from a small break on the courtyard steps fixing his hair as he headed back inside, he walked past the ward and past the open door to the surgical theatre side room and prep room where all the tools and apothecary bottles stood, Nurse Lana. But Jack stopped only a few steps past the door. His eyes narrow as he questions if he saw what he thought he did.

Jack takes a few steps backwards and looks through the open door again, seeing the surgical sink, the window and door to the theatre, the apothecary bottles on the shelves, the tools and blades lined up, and Nurse Lana standing there.

Nurse Lana stood by the sink washing the tools from this morning's amputation, wearing a pair of black lace-up boots with a small heel, a white blouse with long sleeves and lace ruffled cuffs as well as a ruffled lace collar around her neck, her sleeves pushed up around her elbows, a small silver locket around her neck hung half down her chest, a black choker around her neck, a dress with a long blue plaid skirt with enough petticoats to puff it out considerably, the dress had a square neckline and white quilted buttons down the chest, thick straps of the blue plaid on her shoulders, her hair in long elegant curls down her back with a matching blue ribbon. She hummed to herself as she cleaned.

Jack and Lana had a long adversarial relationship but he knew her very well, and currently, he was very confused. This wasn't like Lana, not one bit.

Jack was used to her in thick men's riding boots, trousers, a harsh scowl and her hair always in a tight braid wrapped around her head. This... was strange and yet... not unwelcomed, after all, she did look very cute.

He watched her, his arms crossing over his chest. Questioning if this is real or some kind of joke so after a while he goes over. Moving until he's directly behind her. He stands over her, trying to make her annoyed, but she never acknowledges his presence. He scoffs quietly and takes a step closer until his chest is almost against her back. He stays like that for a few seconds before speaking, his voice quiet as he bends down to her level to talk in her ear. "And when did you start dressing like a cute little princess?"

"Humm?" Lana hums as she hasn't been listening to him

He grumbled under his breath and grabs her shoulders and turned her around, so she now had to face him, he noticed how cute she looked, something seemed so off about her and he coudn't place what it was. And he'd never noticed her little freckles before but he spoke up. "Don't play dumb with me."

"I really don't know what's going on, sorry. Whatever did you want Doctor Dawkins?"

He bends closer, looking down at her with an intense look. "Cut the bullshit. I know that you're doing this on purpose."

"oh, whatever I did I didn't mean to offend you, Doctor Dawkins, please forgive me I didn't mean to ignore you. Whatever is the matter?" Lana smiled sweetly,

This took Jack back as usual she would insult or argue with him but she just seemed to be smiling, obeying, happily. He's expecting the usual bickering, but not this. He doesn't know how to react and just looks down at her. "Why are you being so... obedient?"

"why wouldn't I be Doctor Dawkins?" She smiled as she continued her cleaning

Everything about you today was completely different from the usual her. This left a weird feeling in his chest. "Because you're not acting like her usual self."

"aren't I?" She said "ohh forgive me I didn't mean to offset her assumptions"

This was getting weird, Lana always argued with him, they had a famous hospital rivalry, she never smiled and giggled and obeyed without question, He walked around once more, like a predator circling its prey, "Everything about you today is different. The way you look, the way you're acting, the way you're..." He reaches out, gently running his fingers over the ribbon on her hair. "...being so damn nice to me."
