In the morning, Ava was quick to get back to work on her mini project. And Roman was quick to get back to watching her. He brought her a bowl of some sort of meat and carrots; she assumed the meat was Daryl's doings and the carrots were canned. The two sat in silence while Roman ate. Ava ate too, but much slower, as she would stop in between working to take a bite here and there. They continued this until Ava finally finished. "Is that Carl's hat?" He tilted his head, looking at the familiar shape as Ava added a few final touches.
"Yeah. From what I've heard, the kids lost a lot. He deserves a little gift," she explained, examining it to make sure there wasn't anything poking out or a stray piece of grass from the river.
She stood up and walked out with the mini hat in hand, covering it for no one to see with the other. She found Carol and Maggie talking in the commons room, the two women stopping their conversation and smiling once they saw the two teens.
"Hey kids, y'all eat yet?" Maggie questioned.
"Yeah, Roman brought me some food and we ate in my cell." She nodded, before changing the topic. "Do we have anything that could be used as a kiln?"
"I'm sure we could find something. Might have to make a trip, though," Carol shrugged, looking at Maggie.
"Like where? It might take me a while to get done what I need to do." She huffed.
"There's a cabin a few miles from the mouth of the prison road; it had a wood stove," Maggie suggested.
The girl smiled, "that'd work!" She exclaimed happily. She thought about maybe sometime in the near future she could take a group down there and collect the stove to bring to the prison.
"Great. I'll get a group together to head down; be ready in fifteen." Maggie smiled, standing up and walking off into the cell block.
"What'd you make?" Carol asked curiously while they waited.
Ava looked around to make sure Rick and Carl weren't nearby before she spilled the beans. "It's a surprise for Carl," she said, uncovering the clay hat and showing it to Carol.
"Aww, that's so sweet of you, Ava! I'm sure he will love it," she smiled softly, tilting her head fondly at the girl.
Ava smiled and covered it back up as Maggie emerged from the cell block again with Glenn. "Everyone else is busy," Maggie sighed, "it should be fine. The cabin is cleared already, anyways."
Ava nodded, "it's okay. We got this." She smiled before happily walking to the door.
"Aves," Glenn called out, using a nickname for the girl. "You forgetting something?" He asked once the girl turned back around.
She furrowed her eyebrows and tilted her head in confusion, "what?— oh!" She realized she was unarmed. She walked up to Roman and grabbed his hand, gently placing the clay hat in one of his hands and covering it with his other before walking to her cell and strapping her weapons to her belt.
Finally, the group headed out and piled into one of the cars before driving off to the cabin. Maggie in the driver's seat, Glenn sitting shotgun, Ava in the middle back seat, Roman to her right and Carol to her left.
They all filed out of the car as they arrived at the cabin. Ava rushed in and quickly found herself in the living room with the wood stove. She figured it would be there because usually they're used to heat rooms, not necessarily to cook.
Glenn and Roman worked on getting the fire started while Ava waited patiently. She sat the clay over the fire and closed the stove door before plopping down on the floor next to it.
