You laid your head in your arms as you mindlessly stared at the door of your room, sitting at your desk with nothing to do. There was no clear goal in your life. Tied to the fate of death, it scared you immensely. You only wanted a happy ending for yourself after all you have endured, but you could not even have that.
Flipping through your memory journal, you smiled gently at the various illustrations and writings displayed by the previous person who you were. A rather interesting drawing of Niko was right in front of your eyes, and you immediately softened at the sight of it. Remembering your words at the hospital, on how you bluntly said you did not remember that the cat deeply loved you, your gaze filled with a watery cover, mouth slightly warm and numbing. A tremble, and there you were, silently crying to yourself. To be genuine, you did not like yourself— this version of yourself. The one living and breathing right now. The current you. She was distant, desperately holding on to the past whilst still trying to let go of it. The other you who… originally wrote in this seemed to have forgotten mostly about the zombies, and the previous life that you and she shared together, being the same person and all.
A soft knock at your door sounded, and it cracked open as the hallway light shone through your room, the soft orange and yellow hue flowing through.
“... [Name]?” It was Haruto. His tone held a voice filled with regret and defeat somehow. “Are you okay to talk or…?”
“...” You paused for a moment, deciding whether or not you wanted to talk to him. Today was a rather harsh day, considering what had been exchanged at the hospital. Learning you were going to die was something. But, it did not give you the full right to lash out on the two. “... Yeah.”
Haruto then opened the door fully, a gentle gaze within his expression. He was a very pale man, red glistening eyes full of kindness. Perhaps that is what intrigued the original you that had been here before. A meow filled with sass and attitude made itself heard. Niko pranced into the room, a smug look on his face as he jumped up into your bed, snuggling in with the warm blankets.
“Oh—! Sorry, Niko—” The male turned to get the cat, but you interrupted him.
“No, it's fine. Let him stay there,” you say, your eyes peering over at the now comfortable cat. The green eyed feline had not been in here for quite a while. “He might just… miss being here with… her, or something.”
Haruto frowned at your depressing response, “I'm pretty sure he still knows it's you…”
“Explain why he scratched the hell out of me when I woke up a while back then?” You asked him, turning away in your chair. “I think cats have a… sense, if that makes sense…?” You pondered on your own words for a bit, struggling to find the proper way to describe what you thought. “As if they're able to tell whether or not someone is the same. That's just me, though.”
Ruby eyes shimmered off of the reflection of the city lights coming from your window, a small smile on his lips.
It suddenly disappeared, his face solemn once again, “I'm sorry for earlier.”
You turned to face him, an unreadable expression on your face. You could not place your feelings, considering everyone had a reason to be angry with one another. You are a very expressive teenager, it was a given you were going to simply burst at one point with all that you have gone through. The situation with Oji and Haruto, however, gave a new perspective for you after Oji brutally enlightened you on how they felt.
It destroyed your heart, knowing your mind took someone precious away from them. How much of an impact did you make within one year of being in this world?
