The song in the title is "Say Don't Go" by Taylor Swift.
3rd Person POV
Hailey was staying over at Jake's house. She had been feeling neglected for a long while now. Jake had been spending all his time trying to win back his old friends who had shunned him, and Hailey felt abandoned. Today, she couldn't hold it in any longer and confronted Jake about it.
"Jake, can we talk?" Hailey said, her voice trembling with emotion.
Jake looked up from his phone, where he had been scrolling through old messages from his old friends. "Sure, what's up?"
"I feel like you're ignoring me lately," Hailey said. "You're always on your phone or talking about the Jomies. I barely see you anymore."
Jake looked surprised. "That's not true, Hailey. I'm just trying to mend things with my friends. It's important to me."
Hailey's frustration boiled over. "But what about us? It feels like you're prioritizing them over us."
Jake's expression hardened. "Why do you always have to make everything about yourself, Hailey? I'm just trying to fix things with my friends. They're important to me."
Hailey's eyes widened in surprise. She hadn't expected Jake to get defensive like this. "I'm not making it about myself. I'm just feeling neglected. It feels like you're always preoccupied with them."
Jake clenched his jaw. He was not thinking at all, not minding his words. "You act like I'm never around, but you're always clinging to me. Maybe if you gave me some space, I wouldn't feel suffocated by you all the time."
Hailey was hurt by Jake's harsh words. "Excuse me? Do you even hear yourself? I'm just asking for a little bit of your time, not asking you to give up your friends."
Jake rolled his eyes. "Hailey. Can't you see I'm trying here? I'm trying to fix things with my friends, and all you're doing is nagging me about spending time with you. Can't you just back off a little and let me handle this?"
Hailey felt tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. "God, you are such an ass sometimes, Jake. I didn't realize caring about our relationship meant I was nagging you. I guess I should just shut up and wait patiently while you prioritize everyone else over me."
Jake's irritation reached boiling point. He slammed his fist on the table. "You know what, Hailey? Maybe you should. Maybe if you shut up for once and stopped being so clingy, I wouldn't feel like I have to run away every time you're around."
Jake's words stung like a slap. Hailey felt her heart sink. "So that's how you really feel about me, huh? That I'm just a burden to you. I guess I shouldn't have expected anything else from someone who clearly cares more about their friends than their girlfriend."
Jake rolled his eyes. "Yeah, maybe you shouldn't have. Maybe you should have realized that your constant need for attention would eventually drive me away. Do you ever stop to think about how exhausting it is to be with someone who always needs reassurance and validation? It's suffocating."
Hailey couldn't hold back her tears any longer. She grabbed her bag and walked towards the door.
Jake, realizing what was happening, snapped out of his anger. "Wait, where are you going?"
Hailey stopped for a moment but didn't turn around. "Since I'm such a burden to you, I figured you wouldn't mind if I left."
Jake felt a pang of guilt seeing Hailey in tears. "No, wait, Hailey. Let's talk about this."
