The song in the title is "Long Story Short" by Taylor Swift.

Hailey's POV

Fatefully
I tried to pick my battles 'til the battle picked me
Misery
Like the war of words I shouted in my sleep

And he came just in time
I was in the basement, surrounded on all sides
The knife cuts both ways
If the shoe fits, walk in it 'til your high heels break

And I fell from the pedestal
Right down the rabbit hole
Long story short, it was a bad time

Now I'm all about him
I'm all about him

Actually
I always felt I must look better in the rear view
Missing me
In the music room, I once held the keys to

When I dropped my sword
I threw it in the bushes and knocked on his door
And we live in peace
But if someone comes at us
This time, I'm ready

No more keepin' score now
I'll just keep you warm

No more tug of war now
I just know there's more

No more keepin' score now
I'll just keep you warm

And my waves meet your shore
Ever and evermore

Past me
I wanna tell him not to get lost in these petty things
His nemeses
Will defeat themselves before he gets the chance to swing

And he's standing by
Rare as the glimmer of a comet in the sky
And he feels like home
If the shoe fits, walk in it everywhere you go

Long story short, it was a bad time
Long story short, I survived

3rd Person POV

Jake lets out a choked laugh, his heart overflowing with gratitude and love. "You're one to talk," he retorts, his voice thick with emotion. "Scaring us half to death with your little miracle act."

"You can't get rid of me that easily," she replies weakly, her voice rough and raspy. She tries to sit up, but Zander gently pushes her back down.

"Nuh-uh," he chides, "Don't move too much, okay? You're not completely out of the woods yet."

Hailey rolls her eyes at him, playfully scoffing. "You're such a mother hen," she teases, her voice strained with exhaustion. "I'm fine, I'm not gonna break if I move a bit."

Zander gives her a stern look, not backing down. "You've just had major surgery and miraculously survived against all odds," he reminds her. "So yes, you're going to lie down and rest. I don't care how much you complain and protest, you're not getting up until the doctors say you can."
