Kiara Woods
I snap back to reality from the loud yelling and clapping surrounding me.
I look up at the electric score board and watch as the '16' on the screen turns to '19'. I start clapping along with everyone else.
I peer over at the bench to see my only brother, Kyle, pouring water into his mouth. Kyle has dirty blonde fluffy hair, sharp blue eyes, and a jawline that could draw blood. I lift my arms up and start waving them toward his direction, hoping to get his attention.
I'm still trying to get Kyle's attention when one of the assistant coaches moves his head to the side. I stop wailing my arms at my brother and look at the coach, embarrassed as hell. He gives me a small side eye and I make the mistake of looking back at him, so I look back at Kyle.
I know this coach, though. He taught my brother biology as a freshman in high school, and soon next year he would teach me. Of course I've never talked to him though. I look back at Coach Quinn and he quickly makes sure to look away from me.
Coach Quinn is a tall man, looks like he is in his early 30's. Like my brother, he has a very sharp jawline along with silky brunette hair. He is scary, although undeniably attractive.
The referee blows his whistle and points at the other teams bench. 30 second time out. All of the people on our team stand up and huddle together.
I scan the huddle, mainly focusing on the head coach and what he has to say since I'm a couple rows up from the bench. I look away from the head coach and lock eyes with my brother, who rolls his eyes at me. I chuckle to myself.
I keep scanning the huddle until my eyes find Coach Quinn's. His eyes gaze up at mine while his head is still down facing toward the head coach, allowing me to only see an inch of his eyes. I pull out my phone quickly and look down at it. Eye contact scares me, and so does he.
When the team raises and drops their hands, I watch as Coach Quinn sits on one of the chairs, wondering if he knows who I am. He leans back very far, turning his head to the right before stretching his arms. His arms seem so close to me since this man is almost 7 foot. He's taller than the best post in the state, who is of course on our team.

The buzzer goes off as some kid from the other team tries to nail a shot from half court. The ball nearly hits a girl, she looks like a junior, walking along the sidelines.
I push my finger against the single Airpod in my right ear because it feels like it's about to fall out.
I decide that now is the best time to use the restroom since its a 7 minute halftime. I stand up and wipe dust off my black cargos as I make my way to the gym doors. I turn the corner and bump into a sturdy chest.
"Shit," I mumble, "I'm sorry." I look up at the statue, realizing that it's Coach Quinn.
"You're good," Coach Quinn stares down at me, "Hey, you're Kyle's sister, right?"
The deepness of his voice startles me. Now being able to look at his eyes closer, I can tell they're icy.
I nod my head while stupidly looking into his eyes.
"Well I'm James." He switches hand that he is holding the water bottles in, and lifts his arm up to me.
I stare at the veiny hand before I reach out and shake it with a firm grip, "I'm Kie. Short for Kiara. Nice to meet you." I watch our hands, noticing how small mine is compared to his. I decide to leave out the part where I will be in his class next year, because I'm sure he will find out sooner or later. We got our schedules a week ago.
"Nice to meet you too." He replies with a firm shake as well. We keep shaking our hands for a beat too long before I let go.
"Well, um, good luck with the game." That's all that I manage to say. All he does is nods and we both step to the same side. I quickly shuffle to the other side and start speed walking forward.
