"My little hawk, why do you cry?"

-Sufjan Stevens 'Fourth of July'

We are halfway to the smoothie place, which isn't far at all. "And dude, I was so scared. I thought I was getting kidnapped." Mar seems really into this, because she has a freak smile on and is nodding through everything I am saying. "And, I don't know, he just asked if I wanted a ride, so I said sure." I decide to leave the conversations out.

"That's it?" She wiggles her eyebrows and I make a disgusted face.

"Mar, that's so nasty." She clicks her tongue.

"Alright alright." She throws her hands up.

Soon enough we arrive at the smoothie place. I order a strawberry banana smoothie and Mar orders a Strawberry Mango smoothie.

I take a sip of mine on the way back home. "Oh my god. This is the best smoothie I've ever had." Mariana laughs at me. I pull out my phone to check the time, but it's dead. Great.

"I know, right!" She takes a sip as I check my watch. It's almost 8, so I decide its time for me to head home.

"Shit.." I mumble.

"What's wrong?" She tilts her head and looks at my watch as we continue to walk.

"I have no one to take me home. My mom is.." I shake my head and scoff, "My brother is at a workout." I place my head in my hands.

"You can email Mr. Quinn." She smirks. That may be my only option, but I'm not going to. One afterschool encounter with that man is enough. I shake my head, and she catches on, removing her smirk.

I groan loud as we walk up Mar's driveway. "I guess I'll be walking home, then." I make a exaggerated smile face. We enter Mariana's house and I run upstairs to grab my stuff. "Thanks for the smoothie by the way, you're the best. It might be the only thing I need to make it home."

"You sure you want to walk home?" She looks really concerned. I nod my head and walk towards the door.

"Thanks for having me over, have a good night." I smile as I walk through the door. I hear her say something back but my brain doesn't process it.

It's a 5 mile walk home, including a highway. I tie my hair up and start to walk out of her neighborhood.

By the time I get home, it's around 11:00pm, and I'm sweating like a pig. My smoothie is all gone. I slowly walk upstairs, my legs on fire. I drop my bag in my room and turn on the shower, also plugging in my phone. I walk down to get a glass of water and see Kyle on the couch.

Kyle springs up from the couch. "Kie! Where have you been dude?" I fill up a glass of water and gulp it down.

"Walking home from Mar's." I pant, continuing to drink my water.

"Who's Mar?" He gets up from the couch and starts to walk upstairs.

"A friend. Stop asking so many questions, I'm tired as fuck." I place the glass in the sink and walk upstairs. I see Kyle close his room door.

When I get out of the shower I put on a tight white top and pajama pants. It's midnight and I still have syllabuses to look through and fake sign.

I get up to go tell Kyle that I'm going to bed, but when I reach his bedroom door, I see him sitting on his bed with his hands in his head. I peek closer and see a tear fall from his face. I hear his quiet sobs and he starts to bang on his head. It's another panic attack.

I quickly open the door and sit next to him on his bed. I place my hands on his back and rub up and down. "Kyle? Kyle, it's okay, it's okay." He takes me into his arms and hugs me while swaying back and forth. I don't realize that I'm crying until I feel a tear slip from my eye.

When Kyle is finally sleeping in his bed, I leave his room. I still have syllabus's to fake sign.

By 1:00am I'm in bed. I shut my eyes and in a couple seconds I'm fast asleep.

The next morning I hear my alarm beeping, but I don't have the energy to press snooze. My legs are on fire. Although it's my eyes that are soon on fire when Kyle turns on the lights. I groan. "Come on sleepy head." He grabs the pillow I'm laying on and starts hitting me with it. I start laughing.

"Stop it, asshole." I continue to laugh as I finally get up. "Ugh, my legs."

"Come on, we are leaving in 20 minutes." Great, no time.
