"Why are we the ones who suffer?"
-Beyonce 'Beautiful Liar'
Later that night, me and Kyle pull into the parking lot of a fancy Italian restaurant. I look down at my clothes and sigh. When I close the car door, me and Kyle exchange looks before taking his hand in mine and walking into the restaurant.
We walk up to the front desk together. "Reservation for Kristin?" I ask the woman. The hostess looks us up and down before scrolling down an electronic screen.
"Sorry, no reservation for Kristin. You have the wrong place. Culver's is down the street." The woman tells us in a slight Italian accent as she continues to look at us with a nasty face.
"Is there one for Eric?" Kyle to the rescue again, I would have beat that bitch.
She rolls her eyes and checks the tablet. She sighs, "Follow me." She leads us far away into the back of the restaurant where the VIP's dine. I scoff once I see Eric feeding bread to Kristin.
The woman motions to the table and then walks away. "Ky! Kiki! How are you my sweet angels?"
It's all pretending from here.
"Hello, Mom!" Me and Kyle say at the same time as we exchange glances.
"We are so glad you could join us this fine evening, right sweetie?" Kristin looks at her personal feeder as she sips her red wine.
"Yes, of course. Welcome!" Eric says with a mouthful of bread.
The sounds of glasses clinking and Italian music surrounds me as I sit down in the padded seats. I'd rather be anywhere but here. But Kyle and I have to put on the charm if we want our house back. "So, Mom," She smiles as I call her that, "how have you been?"
She looks at Eric and blushes, "Well, since you asked, Eric has just proposed to me last week!" Not surprising.
"Oh, that's not really what I ask-" She cuts me off.
"Look at the ring! Isn't it lovely?" She holds her hand up to my face so that it's nearly touching me. She does the same to Kyle, but he sneezes on her hand. We both giggle to ourselves as she wipes her hand on her napkin.
"It looks lovely on you, dear." Eric takes the hand Kyle didn't sneeze on and kisses it lustfully, both of them looking into each other's eyes. Eric starts to nibble on her hand until Kyle and I cringe.
"Good evening, Eric." The waiter strides up to us. His eyes land on me. "What can I get for you and your beautiful family to drink?" He removes his eyes from me and looks at Eric.
"Evening, Stefano. Me and the lady will have more of that delicious 1985, and for you, kids?" Eric smiles at us.
"Water." Kyle glares at Eric in disgust.
"And for you, amor? Any kind of wine?" He looks up from his notepad and smiles at me.
"Oh, I'm not an adult." I look back at him with a blank expression on my face.
"Oh, really? You look like one." He winks at me.
"Okay, wanna take this outside? Or would you rather get killed in front of your coworkers?" Kyle pushes the table and stands up, throwing his napkin from under him on the table.
The guy slowly backs away until he is sprinting to the back. "Kyle! That was unnecessary!" Kristin yells at him.
"No, don't talk to me. You had the nerve to embarrass Kie and I in front of the whole school, then you basically kick us out of the house. Do you want us to live on the streets? You and Eric seem pretty damn comfortable where you guys are, but do you ever think about us? No, you don't." Kyle starts to tear up, "You don't know the shit me and frankly Kie have seen. A 14 year old should never have to see some of that stuff." Kyle grabs my arm, "Come on Kie." The built up tears start to slip from both of our eyes.
As we walk away, we hear Eric mumble, "What's up his ass?" Kyle lets go of my arm and lashes around, storming toward Eric. Kyle strikes him in the jaw, knocking him to the ground.
"And you! You are not a part of this family. You never will be. So stop acting like it!" Kyle spits on him before we both walk out of the restaurant. Once we both enter his Honda, there is nothing but silence. That is until we start bursting out into laughter. I high five him.
"Kyle, that was fucking amazing!" I cry of laughter and possibly the tears from earlier.
"Now we just wait to get our house back." He gives me a big hug. "Where do we sleep.."
We sit there in silence. "I think I know a place we can stay for the night."
