Chapter 3-Saved
Isobel was startled awake by a cold rag on her face. She flew up and almost hit the man who was bent over her.
"Lay down," he commanded her. "You have a major gash in the back of your head which needs serious medical attention, which I will see to." He flipped her around unto her stomach and started to dress her wound.
"How did you find me?" Asked Isobel
"I live on the edge of the desert, and had seen the smoke your plane from here. So I followed it, and doing so stumbled upon you, finding you barely alive. If I had found you an hour later you would have been dead, so thank God that he led me to you. You are one lucky girl for me to have happened by" He sternly stated.
"Thanks... A lot," Isobel spat out. "Who are you?"
"My name is Jeremiah Maley; I like to be alone and study. Why? Because of my past, and I also have no interest in friends. My parents both died when I was 3, and I had no other relatives, so I was taken into an orphanage. I prayed everyday that somebody would come and take me home to be there's but that day never came. I always dreamed of a rich family who would take me and love me like never before. But for some reason I never got picked, it was always the cute little girls that were chosen, no matter how hard I put on my best smile.
When I was 16 I left and got out on my own. But the busyness of people, and the outgoing society was not meant for me. Always having people telling me what to do and when to do it. So I moved here where it is peaceful, with hardly any visitors. You're the first visitor I've had maybe in the past 5 years," said Jeremiah reaching over the bed to fetch a bowl of soup. "Anyway, enough about me. You need some food. Do you think you can flip over for me?" Jeremiah asked.
"Yah I think so." Isobel said pushing herself over on her back and propping herself on her elbow to eat. It was a challenge, but she did it somehow.
"I can tell you one thing, you definitely got spirit kid," laughed Jeremiah. "But you will have to stay in bed for quite a while, so you might as well make yourself at home."
"Do you think I can call my mom, she's probably worried sick about me?" asked Isobel.
"Sorry no signal out here," Jeremiah said. "So where are you from?"
"Illinois, nothing interesting there," Isobel said blankly.
"Well sure there is, there's you!" Laughed Jeremiah. "So where were you heading to when your plane crashed?"
"Off to Australia to meet some old friends of mine. Oh great they're going to be worried about me too, ugh" Groaned Isobel
"Don't worry kid, the sooner you get better the sooner you can go to your friends and carry on like normal. Eat up, then you need to rest" he said picking up a book.
It wasn't until Isobel started to eat silently that she got a good look of Jeremiah. He was of average height, a very buff man of about 6'1. He had a great tan from hours in the sun, with dark brown hair. His hand were coarse and blistered, with chiseled arms that have experienced hard labor. He had dashing eye's that were the darkest brown, almost black it seemed. When you stared into them they gave you a mysterious chill, that Isobel just couldn't shake off quite as fast as she would have liked. She then dozed off dreaming about her family that she so badly missed
"Well she certainly is a smart fellow," Jeremiah softly stated to himself. "I'm glad I stumbled across her, or who knows if she would still even be on this planet. When she wakes up I'll have to set some boundaries, what room will be her's for the time being and all. And the sooner I can get her all healed up, the sooner I can ship her outta here, so I don't have to worry about being discovered. Oh I just hope she doesn't find out... I just hope not...I hope not-" He thumped his head unto his chest with sleep overtaking him. It had been a long day, and quite unusual too. Not only had he discovered Isobel, he had gotten a letter from his 2nd cousin who he hadn't seen in years. All that was stated was a short, and rather rude hello-
Greetings-
To: Jeremiah Maley
Brother, I haven't spoke to you in a while for certain reasons as you know. I just wanted to see how you were keeping up in the middle of the desert, with no friends, an actual meal, nor any surfing that you enjoy so much.
Kelly is getting on well with the new baby that she had a couple months ago, which means nothing to you I'm sure.
Well I just wanted to send you a simple greeting which I'm sure you don't even care to hear and will be thrown in the fire shortly after.
Respectfully yours like always.
Adam Maley
