Chapter 8- Shells
"Still no sign of her?" Mrs. Hammond asked, as she clutched the phone tighter with anxiety.
"No, haven't seen or heard from her. What did the police say? Have they found anything to track?"
"No, all they said was that their doing the best they can, which seems to me to only be eating chocolate donuts!" Mrs. Hammond snickered.
"They probably are doing the best they can! You need to just trust them, they do know what their doing!" Kelly comforted from the other side of the phone.
"I know, it just seems like they would have already had something to follow on." Mrs. Hammond sighed. "I'll make sure to give you an update if I hear anything!"
"Same here. And just remember, pray my sister, pray! Kelly repeated.
"I will! I'll talk to ya later! Bye."
"Goodbye!" Kelly hung up.
"Oh Lord, where oh where is my daughter?" Mrs. Hammond whispered, as she crumpled to the ground.
Mrs. Hammond started reminiscing about Isobel as a young one, letting the tears trace down her face:
"Mama mama! Look what I found!" Isobel cried, as she ran as fast as her legs could go across the sandy beach.
"What is it dear?" Mrs. Hammond asked, trying to get a good at it through the dirty, chubby hands.
"A tell mom, a tell!" Isobel said triumphantly.
"A shell Isobel, it's pronounced 'shell'!" Mrs. Hammond laughed.
"Sh-sh-shell?" Isobel tried.
Mrs. Hammond giggled, "Yes, you got it!"
Isobel ran off, trying to pronounce the strange word as went. Running, she fell into a hole that had recently been dug.
"Owww!" Isobel cried, tears starting to stream down her face.
Mrs. Hammond ran over, gently picked her up, and cradled her.
"Are you alright girlie?"
"My foot hurts a little bit, but I think I'm fine! Jesus kept me safe mama, don't you just love him?"
"Yes I do, with all my heart!"Mrs. Hammond laughed, rubbing her nose to Isobel's, making her laugh. "Now run off dear and find some more shells for mom!"
"Alright! I'll find a big one for you" Isobel said, her eyes wide with excitement. She turned around and started running towards where she had been digging.
"Don't get hurt again, you hear!"
"I won't mama!" Isobel promised.
"Oh, if only I had my baby now in my arms! Jesus keeping her safe and sound. Everything would be picture perfect again!" Mrs. Hammond wept, letting her head drop to her chest.
