Chapter 6- Songs and Memories

Isobel pulling the squeaky shower know, hot water jumbling out. Isobel was normally pretty quick, but today she wanted to just relax, think, and sing. Struggling to avoid her gash, she lightly wet her hair and face.

She started singing a favorite of hers by Shawn McDonald "Closer"

"Looking for a color in the shade of gray

Looking for love in a drop of rain

Trying to change from the old mundane

Everything I do just feels the same

Spending my life out in the desert

Been gone so long feels like forever!"

Isobel sang as loud as her lungs would allow, filling the steamy bathroom.

Jeremiah heard her from outside, while he was tending to his makeshift garden.

"She sings?" He said with a puzzled look, shocked that such a beautiful voice could come from such a small girl.

He walked inside, the shower water abruptly stopping, but the voice continuing.

"I just want to be closer to you

I just want to be closer

I am yours you can have all of me

Anything everything

I just want to be closer!"

He walked through the kitchen, and down the hall to stand next to the door where her lovely voice trailed from.

"A day without you is a thousand tears

A day without you is a million fears

Tell me why do I run when I am in fear

Why do I run when you are so near

Spending my life out in the desert

Been gone so long feels like forever!"

Isobel sang, dragging out "forever" sarcastically, and smirking to herself.

Jeremiah was awestruck by her talent. He hadn't heard anyone sing since he was 18, and that was by his sweet Rachel. Oh how he missed her, and wished that he could touch her at that moment. He had wanted to marry her eventually, and if it hadn't been for the incident, he probably would have.

He winced a small tear, as he remembered their last conversation.

"Jeremiah, what is this?" Rachel demanded, tears and run down makeup covering her face.

Jeremiah had been working on a wooden object in his workshop that he had wanted to give to Rachel on her 18th birthday.

"Woahhhh, Rachel. You could have knocked, I'm working on something special for your birthday!" He said not turning around, and trying to guard the object with his body.

"Jeremiah, I have a feeling that we won't be celebrating my birthday together." She said dryly.

Jeremiah slowly turned around, and looked her straight in the eyes.
