AUTHOR'S POV
Although it was a tiring night for Y/n, still she went to the library as her heart wished. A few of her body parts ached but that wasn't going to stop her. Her determination to do different tasks well was unshakable.
The library was warm and cosy from the inside, the lanterns emitted the warmth. The smell of the oak wood filled her nostrils as her hands grazed on the leathery texture of the brown books.
She stacked one book over another and then looked at the four books she chose in the fifteen minutes she spent. 'The Mysterious Magical Forest' was written over the book at the top.
From the time she had heard about it from Yeonjun, she couldn't stop herself but think about it. She wanted to read and see what was written by the ancestors. Now that she didn't have a choice and couldn't go back, she wanted to know more about the world she got tangled with.
The librarian was working as always and would glance over her from time to time. He also wanted to see what the Princess was doing.
Y/n did notice him glancing at her and didn't mind. After finalising the books, she picked them up and made her way to the room. As she passed the desk of the librarian, she glanced for the last time at the old man.
A sudden thought struck her mind...
After a while, a plate was slid on the desk and the librarian squinted his eyes upon viewing it filled with different types of sweets and dishes in small amounts. He was confused at the sight in front of him.
He looked up to find Y/n with a smile painted across her face. "Have something." The words escaped her mouth, and the librarian stared at her with warmth in his heart.
"I know you have been working since the morning, so this will help you to get some energy!" She chimed at him. The reluctance in his heart died at her words.
He warmly smiled showing the wrinkles under his eyes. The cheekbones were visible a bit. He was of a great age. "Thank you, your highness." His voice was heavy and raspy.
Y/n was unsure of what he would prefer to eat so she brought everything. She was at ease after knowing that he would eat the food. After making sure her work was done, she left the place.
A smile was tugged on her lips as she went down the hallway with the weight of books in her hands. They were heavy but she couldn't care less about it.
She knew that she wouldn't find Jungkook in the room; he was rarely present nowadays.
Despite knowing it, she still didn't feel empty at all. In her life, she never had actual friends to play with, no one to share her feelings with or even talk with.
She knew how to spend her time all by herself. Although there was nothing special in her life, she still cherished every moment.
She entered the room, letting the warmth of the room envelope her. She kept the books on the mattress and sat on the bed. She held one book and started reading while keeping her feet one upon the other, in a comfortable position.
Hours passed with her staring at each word, each sentence with curiousness decreasing.
At last, she closed the last book with a sigh. Her face was weary and she wore a smile with her eyes barely opened.
Wasted my time...
She thought to herself as she lay down. Her back now felt all the rest it needed, and she shuffled, making herself comfortable to sleep.
She found nothing in the books, there was nothing written special about it. The information Yeonjun gave her, was nowhere to be seen.
Just a few things, here and there, about what was the forest and what the colours symbolised. She let herself go to sleep as her eyes were strained with pain.
NEXT MORNING
Her eyelids were giving up, she couldn't keep them open. Every passing second sucked her energy. Y/n felt weak as her mouth was dry open.
When she woke up in the morning, she saw the red stains on the bedsheets but with the help of maids, she got everything covered up. Last night's tiredness didn't help at all.
No wonder why she was feeling hungry after almost every hour.
Her day wasn't going well. She did nothing except return the books to the librarian, sit quietly in the room and sleep.
It was almost afternoon when she heard a knock on the door. Her sleep was interrupted. "Mm..."
She sat up and placed her feet on the floor; it was cold, which sent chills down her spine. With all her energy, she stood up and opened the door.
She saw a maid standing there; in front of her with a tray. "Your Highness, I heard about your condition. I'll be here to take care of you."
Y/n let her come in and she again lay down on the bed. The maid made sure that everything she was doing was correct. Y/n smiled a bit knowing now that there was someone who cared.
While checking the recent records of soldiers and their workers, Jungkook wondered if he had done the right thing.
He got to know about Y/n's state from the head maid, so he sent one to look after her. He couldn't be there every time checking upon her and this was what he could do.
Jungkook knew he would be getting a huge responsibility once he took the place of his father, the Emperor.
He needs to prepare himself and balance his life. Knowing the load of work which was going to be passed down on him soon, he sweated a bit but wasn't ready to give up already.
He hoped for the best as daily he worked hard for himself. He also never forgot to check on Y/n's state whenever he had some time.
He made sure to keep his life organised from the next day so that he had enough time for himself and her. Jungkook had a small smile on his face and went back to his work.
