Fireworks

Casualties are yet to be determined, however experts say that it could be in the thousands and authorities from across the country are currently looking for survivors. Scientist are still figuring out how large the meteor is. The tv continued on in the background as Len slowly gained consciousness. He tried opening his eyes, however his eye lids refused to. Len turned in his bed with great difficulty, that's when he heard a woman's voice.

"Doctor! Patient #47 has awoken!"

Sounds of medical equipment, rustling of lab coats and shoes quickly got closer to Len.

"Son! Are you ok? How do you feel? Can you open your eyes?"

Len slowly shakes his head to answer the Doctor and leaned on his arms to help him get up. However he didn't realize that his arms were in a cast, along with one of his foot. He had a light brace around his body, a few of his ribs were broken according to one of the nurses.

Two nurses and the doctor helps Len sit up. Groaning through the pain, Len finally was sitting up on the bed. One of the nurses grabbed some water to wash his face and scrubbed carefully around his eyes. Through many pain staking minutes, Len slowly opened his eyes a little bit.

"Does it hurt to inhale?"

Len shook his head again

"Can you try talking?"

Taking a sip of water, he let out a soft noise and proceeded to talk.

"What's going on? Why am I hurt?"

"Son, you have been in a coma for roughly a week. The plane that you were on got caught in the meteors shockwave. You were badly injured, but you should be thankful. Most of the other passengers passed away"

A nurse politely knocks on a rolling table,  signifying her presence.

"Pardon me, sir, you have a visitor. It's your girlfriend"

Len's eyes widened with surprise and anticipation.

"Tina is here to see me?" Thought Len

Just then, Seleste whips open the curtain that separates him from the other patients. She eyes were red from crying and dark rings under them from the lack of sleep.

"Lens!!! Thank goodness you are finally awake!! I thought I had lost you forever!!!"

The nurse and doctor smiled and left the room to give them a bit of privacy.

"Hahaha, Seleste, it's ok. I'm ok.... Well kinda ok. Is it just you?"

Seleste wiped her tears using Len's blanket, even though there was a full box of tissues right next to her. But Len didn't mind.

"Sniiff. Yeah, why do you ask?"

The grin that Len had become weaker.

"It's nothing, it's just that they said my girlfriend was here to visit me, so I just thought...."

Seleste finally understands and she reaches for his cast up hand. She gets a little smile and tries to cheer him up.

"You thought that Tina would be here. Don't worry I left her a voicemail letting her know about what happened."

Seleste got a bigger smile and started talking in a cheeky manner.

"Wait, so they called me your girlfriend? Haha"

"Yeah, I wonder why they said that?"

Seleste had a more serious face now.

"You don't remember? When the plane flipped over you protected me with your entire body. When the emergency crew showed up to come save us, you told them to take me first and perform first aid to me. Compared to you, I was basically unscathed. I'm guessing that's why they thought we were a thing"

Len sat there trying his best to remember what occurred that morning.

"It's ok Lens, all that matters right now is that you are feeling better..... Kinda.... Let's talk about something else."

"Ok what did you have in mind?"

Seleste scrunched up her face and thought long and hard about what else to talk about.

"Hmm, ... Oh! I've been meaning to ask you this for a while. You don't have to answer me if you don't want to. What attracted you to Tina when you two first met?"

Len's face softened and he had a pleasant smile.

"She was just so pretty and something about her was so majestic. She would walk lightly like a feather and her eyes sparkled like fireworks"

Before Len could continue, Seleste yelped suddenly and quietly says

"Fireworks!..."

She then collapsed to the ground and went into the fetal position, mumbling to herself with her hands shaking. Completely shutting down.
