chapter 8

Chapter 8

Andrew and his men searched for three days in the surrounding area looking for any sign that Billi

was near with nothing. Andrew was getting frustrated and so were the men. They did not

understand his need to find this missing boy. They all liked Billi but none would stop everything and

head out in the beginning of winter in search of a boy who obviously did not want to be found.

The first snow flakes were beginning to fall and Andrew could hear the grumbling of his men, they

were cold and tired and hating the thought of another night sleeping in the cold. Andrew himself

was not looking forward to another night out in the cold, even with a fire it was not enough to keep

away the cold. He was about to tell his men to turn towards home when he saw what looked like a

cave entrance. He told the men to wait there while he went to investigate the cave and make sure it

was big enough for them all and maybe there horses. As Andrew entered the cave he noted that it

was not very big but it would have to do they could not sleep in the snow and he was just not ready

to give up the search yet. He returned to his men and let them know of the cave and assigned them

each different tasks to make sure they had wood for a fire to last the night and fresh food. He had

two men go to gather wood and two to hunt for food while he and the last two would get the cave

ready for them to sleep.

Once they got a nice fire going the men were lest grumpy and started talking of different battles they

had gone through together. Typical male talk he thought, but at least they were warm and about to

have fresh meat in there belly's. The two who were hunting came back with several rabbits and

began to clean them before putting them on a spit over the fire. While the food was cooking Andrew

decided to have a look around the cave and see if there was any more to it thinking maybe he could

find another cavern to house the horses. As he walks to the back of the cave he notices that there is

in fact more to this cave and the back room has ample space for there horses as well as a tunnel

leading even further into the mountain. As he takes a step towards it he feels a squish under his

foot and the distinct odor of horse dung, now he begins to wonder who else might be using this

cave and how long ago has it been since they were last here? What if it is the mad man's hide out

somewhere deeper in the cave? He decides to get a couple men and search the caves and

tunnels.
