a/n- everyone embrace yourselves, it's a long one...

Nancy planned on leaving Riff's house early the next morning so he could have some space before the rumble that night. She didn't want to admit it, but she was terrified for the events that were going to take place later that evening.

Even though she had convinced Riff to try and compromise with the Sharks before they fought along with leaving the gun behind, people could still get hurt no matter which side they were on.

But it gave her a sense of peace to see Riff still in a deep sleep as she woke up and began to get ready to leave. As she walked into the kitchen to make breakfast for the two of them, she noticed the slightest smile on his face which told her that he was dreaming.

Soon enough, the Jet began to stir and when he finally woke up and rolled over to greet Nancy, he was confused to see that she wasn't there.

Fear shot through his body that she had left before he could say goodbye, so he dressed himself quickly and traveled down the hall.

He sighed out of relief as he saw her putting two plates onto the small table that both had toast on them.

"Looks like someone's off to an early start this morning." Riff teased, his voice deeper than normal as the girl jumped from hearing his voice behind her.

She took a few seconds to catch her breath, "Good morning to you too." She retorted. A low chuckle escaped the Jet's lips as he strutted over to the table where his girl was.

She could finally get a look at his appearance now that her heart had calmed: his eyes hung low from still being asleep and she laughed to herself as she noticed Riff's shirt was only half buttoned with a few not even matching the correct hole they were supposed to go through.

"I was just leaving so I could give you space before the rumble tonight. I understand it's a big deal and I want you to be prepared." She stated as his lips finally left hers after sitting down.

"I'm just fine and everything's gonna be alright. You don't need to worry 'bout me, Nance."

She paused for a moment, "Alright then."

The two then ate together, both thinking constantly about how they wanted to spend the rest of their lives like this with the other, but neither said a thing.

"Hey, Riff..." The Jet hummed as he held the door open for Nancy as she was leaving.

"How are you feeling?"

Riff didn't waste a second before stepping out of the doorway to wrap his arms around her waist and pull her closer to him, "Wonderful 'cause I'm with you."

"And you're sure that you're ready for tonight, even without the gun?"

"I'm always ready." He encouraged playfully, still a little dazed from being asleep. "I'm a Jet!"

She smiled and she kissed Riff gently on the lips once more before walking home, letting him have time to get ready before the sun would set.

Even though she didn't want to admit it, Nancy felt more at ease than when she had woken up this morning because of the Jet telling her that he was going to be fine. He was probably right anyway.

Once she arrived at home, she was welcomed by Valentine and was quickly informed that Tony was once again out with Maria.

She couldn't imagine what he was doing out today and honestly she didn't care all that much, just as long as he started away from the rumble tonight.

But her tasks were completed inside the shop with ease, so she actually had a calm night to herself. At least that's what she hoped for.

Nancy sat on her bed as the sun was setting through the window with the play Romeo and Juliet sitting in her lap turned to scene two.
