I entered my home and saw Zack sitting on the couch. He stood up as soon as I closed the front door and walked over to me.

"Where were you?" He asked sternly in a low and dark voice. His face showed no emotion but his voice said it all.

"Uhh, didn't Kate tell you?" I asked nervously, answering his question with a question of my own. I could feel his eyes stare right into my soul even if I wasn't looking at him.

"She did. So, who is this Lyra girl? Is she good? She didn't try to do something bad to you right? You can never trust anyone you know." He said, his voice gradually became normal.

"Gee Zack you don't have to be so overprotective and yes I know I'm not supposed to trust anyone so easily." I avoided his stares and kept looking everywhere other than at him. I knew he was worried but I couldn't tell him, not now. I could feel his glare getting softer, gradually losing its intensity until it felt almost indifferent.

I quickly changed the subject before he could respond, to avoid any more questions, "So, where's mom and dad? I thought they were worried sick."

He told me to come with him and I followed him into the living room and we both seated ourselves on the couch before he responded, "mom's in the other room attending a business meeting and dad's in his room as he had to attend an important call and they were worried sick until Kate called and told them that you were with a friend, what was her name again? Oh yeah... Lyra." He laid down and spoke with one hand resting on his forehead.

You're a genius Kate! I owe you big time. I exclaimed to myself. "Uhh yeah. She invited me to come over for a while to.... grab a meal you know?" I stuttered, I really wanted to tell him about Tyler but I just couldn't. I couldn't even imagine what he'd do to him if he knew I was at the house of a 'player', probably break all his bones and bury him alive. The last line was neutral as fuck in my head.

"If that's the case then alright, food's in the fridge if u want some." He said as he walked out of the living room and went upstairs.

I wasn't hungry after that sandwich I had at Tyler's, so I went upstairs and into my room which was on the other side of the hall opposite to Zack's. I sat on my bed and looked at the clock, it was 9:37pm and I should've been sleeping by now but I couldn't. All I could think about was that kiss. It was my first kiss which I never imagined to be like this. I definitely did not like it but it was too sudden for my brain to process anything but he probably knew it after seeing my reaction. But I had bigger issues. Was I actually gonna attend the party?

I woke up at the sound of my phone ringing, it was Kate. I looked at the time and it was 11:15pm. I had always been the most 'disciplined' child which was why I would sleep so early even if I didn't want to but after i got used to it there was no going back but that wasn't the case for Kate.

"Kate?" I said in a sleepy voice.

"Don't tell me you're sleeping already. At least change your lifestyle now." She nagged.

But I was too sleepy to care much.

"It's about this evening?" She said, she had filled in for me but I knew she was curious about my where being.

"Thanks Kate. I really owe you a lot for today." I whispered along the line.

"No prob Ev what are best friends even for? Plus Lyra is the one to thank. She agreed immediately when I told her the matter. She's a good friend." Even if I couldn't see Kate right now I knew she was smiling and so was I.

"Coming back to where we were. I was actually at Tyler's place. He offered to make me something to eat and soon after he dropped me home, that's all." I yawned as I spoke. She was silent for a minute before she broke out into a laugh.

"Nice try Ev but that's not fooling anyone." She was still laughing.

"Believe it or not I was with him." My voice was stern.

"So you're telling me that the most popular guy in school who sleeps with random girls every single day invited you over to his house, gave you a meal and sent you off?" She mimicked my words.

"You don't know him." I shouted over the line.

"Neither do you Ev, be careful." She cut me off.

And with that I went back to sleep. The rest of the night was stressful to even think about. Kate was right, I didn't know him at all. There's surely a reason as to why he's known as the 'player' and I had find out. I had to go to that party.

The next morning I got up a bit late which was shocking for my entire family but I guess Kate was right about one more thing. I needed to change my lifestyle. I headed downstairs to have breakfast when I saw Mom, Dad and Zack already eating.

"What's up with you today sleepyhead? This is quite an unusual site." Zack turned around and spoke with cereal in his mouth.

"Leave her alone Zack, she's probably tired after all that happened yesterday. With that being said, would you mind telling us sweetie about what you did yesterday after school?" Mom placed a plate of pancakes on the table which I knew were for me.

I didn't get to tell them about the 'after-school activty' yesterday as I had soon gone to bed as soon as I reached home. So I filled them in as I munched on my pancakes. They were glad that I got to socialize a bit but I didn't tell them about Tyler.

"Well that's most likely you Evelyn. Helping out, can't say no. Yep definitely you." He took another bite of his cereal.

I hit him on the shoulder signalling him to 'shut up' but looks like he wasn't gonna anytime soon. Dad just laughed at seeing the two of us argue but Mom wasn't having it and told us to stop. As always I got up first to leave to stop our fight but stopped when Dad received a phone call. It was too early for him to get any calls regarding work so all three of us were a bit surprised. He spoke over the phone for a few minutes before hanging up.

"School's off for today sweetie looks like you're gonna have to stay home." He smiled.

But it was a Thursday so that's quite strange "what's the occasion Dad?" I asked curiously.

"There's a bit of work going on there till this weekend. That's all they said." He took the last sip of his coffee before getting up and kissing my forehead before making his way out of the house.

Mom was busy doing the dishes and Zack was busy with his phone. Guess I'll have to spend the day with Kate then.
