"And that is how Nelson Mandela freed-" Mr Anderson spoke in the most soothing manner putting almost the entire class to sleep well except someone. I had always been interested in stories and Nelson Mandela's was one I'd never get bored of.
"Hey page 47," a girl behind me whispered.
I turned around to see the same girl from this morning. I was so indulged in what Mr Anderson's was saying as that's what I was interested in, not in the book.
"Wait er, remember me?" I asked starting a conversation.
"Well of course. Evelyn Wilson, how could I forget u have a really er- distracting face which makes it really hard to forget." She looked at me with big doe eyes.
"Thanks... for the compliment I guess?". I said in the form of a question raising one of my eyebrow.
"Oh don't get me wrong. What I mean is you look really attractive compared to the others over here. Some might even mistake you to be Carla's sister." She said putting a hand up to her chin.
Before I could ask her who Carla was she told me, "Carla is the most popular girl in school and the biggest pick me if you're wondering." She said answering the question I didn't even ask yet.
"The thing that I've been wondering ever since you vanished in the hallway is your name. God can I finally get your name?" I giggled extending an arm.
She laughed. "Sorry about that i was late to class so i had to rush to get there. The teachers here love giving detention you know." She whispered in my ear." I'm Lyra by the way it was really nice meeting you Evelyn." She shook my hand that I've been holding up for i don't even know how long.
I was confused as why she was saying it as if we won't be meeting again. That's when she pointed in front of me indicating me to look forward. And when I did boy was I up for a drill. Mr. Anderson was standing right in front us with the most angriest look on his face.
Lyra squealed while I just remained silent.
"U don't look familiar." Mr. Anderson said looking at me as if trying to recall my face, when he couldn't he just let us off with a warning saying I was new here and didn't know the rules.
We continued to pay attention till the class was over. It was pretty long but it eventually got over before I could doze off. I couldn't bear hearing someone speak for over 30 minutes, even if it was about my favorite story.
It was now recess so I got my books and walked out of the classroom remembering to meet Kate but stopped at the door when I saw Lyra standing beside the door outside the classroom. She jumped happily when she saw me and asked if I would like to join her at the cafeteria. It was nice to have a friend after a while. Wait did I just call her a friend?

"Woah this is amazing. Can't believe we're gonna be eating this everyday from now on." Kate said gobbling down an entire peice of sandwich at once. Me and Lyra laughed at the scene.
We had entered the cafeteria to see Kate already there sitting at an empty table and that's when I introduced her to Lyra and they both seemed to get along pretty well.
Lyra seemed to be a really nice person. Her sense of humour was really something and she was into books just like me. she also told us about how she never really had liked any of the students over here as they were very boring and just made a few friends. Well I could say the same didn't go for me and Kate. It was always just the two of us but now it felt good to step out of our comfort zone and get to know someone new.
"So Lyra what are you doing today after school?" Kate who had already finished eating a while ago asked Lyra who was still slurping on her drink. I remembered about how Kate and I were supposed to go for a tour around the town today. No doubt she wanted Lyra to come too. Well it would be good to have someone who was familiar with the town go with us.
"Well I'm done with my assignments for this week and don't have any plans after school...." Lyra said while looking away trying to avoid our stares.
"Just say you're coming already." I rolled my eyes before laughing.
"5:00pm?" Kate suggested folding her arms on the table.
"Sounds good." I assured her. "Let's meet at the central Park after school. From there we can decide where to go." I said looking over at Lyra.
"Sure that sounds like a great idea." Lyra smiled but before she could say anything else the bell rang which indicated the continuation of the rest of the classes. "So see you guys after school?" She asked already knowing the answer.
"Yeah. Let's do that." I said before making my way out of the cafeteria.
I was walking down the hallway when I spotted Tyler leaning against one of the lockers with a bunch of girls hovering around him but he didn't seem to care and was glued to his phone with one hand tucked into his pocket casually resting one leg on the locker. His blonde hair cascaded over his ocean blue eyes enhancing his facial features. Damn he was attractive.
He stopped whatever he was doing and turned to look at me with a smirk. I froze. He put his phone in his back pocket and began walking in my direction. I could feel my heart racing as he came closer and stopped within mere centimeters of me. He then leaned forward from where he was standing bringing himself eye to eye with me. I kept staring into his eyes and he in mine until he finally spoke. "Looks like someone's off to class early." He smirked.
"Well I'm not like someone who plays with other people's feelings and seeks attention all the time." I said without moving an inch.
"Playi-". Before he could finish his sentence someone shouted from behind us. We turned to see what was going on.
"Hey paper girl don't try too hard now. Get in line, there are girls dying to get near Tyler. It may take you a while." A guy said which made everyone laugh.
Oh no not now. I thought to myself while Tyler was still trying to figure out what the guy was talking about but not for long.
"Paper girl? Wait was that you?" He asked with a shocked look on his face with a hint of anger.
"Oops?" I said laughing sarcastically. But he didn't seem to show a slight bit of expression on his face.
Before he could say anything else I pushed him out of the way making him hit one of the lockers by accident and ran out of there as fast as I could.
"You're gonna have to pay Wilson!". I heard him yell before I finally lost sight of him.
"Phew! That was a close call." I said to myself but how did he know my name I don't remember him being there when the teacher introduced me to the class. Not that it mattered anyway.
______________________________________It was 3 and school was almost over. I packed my stuff in my locker and went out only to find Kate already waiting for me we planned to take the bus home as walking was definitely not an option as we were very tired.
Kate got off as her house was closer.
I was seated near the window looking outside to see kids with their parents walking back home which reminded me of how my dad would pick me up from kindergarten and we would get ice cream on the way. I let out a sigh thinking about those days. Well back to the present. Not bad for a first day I guess. I took my phone out to listen to some music. This was the peace I longed for. I smiled closing my eyes with a tear rolling down my cheek.I went to my room as soon I reached home and laid down on my bed for a few minutes thinking about all that had happened at school today when I heard a knock on the door.
