Chapter 12: Friend or Foe?

"Uhm... are you sure you have the right seat...?"

"Yes, I do."

Well, this is awkward. I mean, it can't be that bad sitting next to the person who hates you most and literally has possession of dark magic, right?

We both sit down as the professor starts the lecture.

"Class, today we will be learning about the history of magic..."

I glance at the female student beside me. Blair, huh? She's pretty, I suppose, but her character is going to be a problem...

I sigh and continue listening to the lecture... or rather, just spacing out for the rest of the lecture.

Great, I'm sitting next to Miss Overpowered here. Seriously, couldn't I have just been seated anywhere else?

Geez the luck I have... I glance at her. I feel like something is off about her. How can someone gain so much power?

No matter, since dark magic is the strongest, she couldn't possibly possess any stronger magic. And if it really comes to it, I still have that spell.

If one day, I have to fight her, I will defeat her, and take the crown for myself.

The bell rings and dismisses the students for lunch. I'm glad I could finally get away from Blair... I could quite literally feel her eyes on me the entire time... and not in a good way.

I regroup with Elise and Alisa before heading to the cafeteria. I've heard that the top class of each year usually gets the best treatment, even having a separate space for lunch as well as a separate menu..

Walking into the luxurious cafeteria, I still can't help but feel stunned.. While I should've gotten used to living in the Alphonse mansion already, I suppose I'm still a peasant at heart...

Elise, Alisa and I manage to squeeze our way through a crowd and head to a table. We were about to get our lunch when a certain blonde prince walked towards our table...along with a certain female student.

"Ah, Miss L/N. What a coincidence. Since we're all here, let's just have lunch together."

I see him with a small smile on his face. That's weird. He usually doesn't have any expression on his perfect face whatsoever. Now that I think about it... it could be classified as a smirk. Either that or I've officially gone insane.

Blair, walking beside him widened her eyes. Her face told me everything I needed to know about just how much she despised me...

"Uhm... Prince Leonas, perhaps it would be better to sit at another table... it's rather crowded here..."

"Lady Blair, I've already made up my mind. If you wish to sit elsewhere, you are free to do so."

Before Blair could even reply, he's already invited himself to a seat at our table... Seriously, what a waste of a good face to have such a bad personality.

Blair hesitantly beside the crown prince... which is right in front of me. The tension here is awkward before a row of servants barge into the cafeteria with many plates of delicacies...

"Well then everyone, dig in. It's my treat."

Staring at the food in front of me, I'm suddenly reminded how much a peasant I am. I could almost feel myself drooling at the sheer amount of food in front of me...

Out of the many times that I have cursed the crown prince, this time, I worship you. Thank you very much. This is the best character development I've ever seen. You're now in my top three favourite characters.

Everyone digs in, although the atmosphere is still tense. I feel like the heroine and I are the only ones enjoying the food...I suppose commoners like us are different after all...

After lunch, we head back for our afternoon classes. More specifically, Familiar Summoning class. Although I already have Batman, I guess I have to actually 'summon' him with the old summoning circle.

The professor draws out a familiar summoning circle, and shows an example. She lets a drips some blood onto the circle and starts chanting some spell. A bright light illuminates the room before a small fox appears.

Some other students follow after, summoning a variety of familiars including bats, birds and cats. I hear a loud gasp, and turn around to see Elise summon a huge wolf.

As expected of her, she catches me staring and makes a smug look. It's impressive for sure. Another gasp is heard when the heroine summons a fiery pheonix. It looks spectacular... seeing it in person.

"Look! The crown prince is about to summon his familiar!"

The crown prince drips some of his blood onto the summoning circle. A bright light comes after.

"That... Is that...?!"

The crown prince summons a large lion. It's kinda fitting him though. Royal blood is impressive. I turn towards Blair. A dark magic user is sure to be something... I wonder what she'll summon...

She begins the summon, I see a small dark flicker on the summoning circle. Is she doing something to it...? Moments later, an impressive roar sounds from across the room.

She has summoned... a dragon?!

That's... really impressive...

"Miss L/N, are you going to summon something now?"

Ah, right. Almost forgot. Well done, I already know Batman will appear, but let's just do it anyways.

I begin the summon, the usual bright light yada yada... and my summon appears!

"Batman?"

"Miss L/N.. is that... your familiar...?"

'My familiar' smiles brightly as he raises his two hands in the air.

"I'm Batman, and I'll save Gothem city!!"

Where did he learn that?!
