"Are you even sure that you poured in the correct measurements of the ingredients? Something's not right." Naomi questioned me as she tasted the lemon tart that we made together.
"I might've poured in salt instead of sugar." I admitted and scratched my forehead.
She glared at me before getting a bottle of water to drink. After that, she handled me one too, signalling me to drink it.
We were in the middle of cleaning the things that we used for making lemon tarts and muffins when both our phones buzzed. We each got a message from Naoki, telling us that Inari wants to meet us.
"The weather forecast shows that it's going to be sunny today, why is it raining so hard?" She mumbled as we both entered the headquarters together.
"You called for us." Naomi said when we arrived at the conference room, we sat next to each other while Inari was busy looking at the rain from the window.
We all sat down inside the conference room of the Jujutsu Headquarters. Almost all representatives of each unit were inside, murmuring among themselves.
Inari's voice cut through the room, silencing the whispers on the side. "I uncovered something grave." She began, her eyes filled with intensity.
"A cursed artifact known as the Seed of Discord has been planted on Earth. It is accumulating cursed energy at an alarming rate and threatens to bring chaos to our world."
Naomi's eyes met mine briefly, and I could see the same worry mirrored in her gaze.
Inari continued, "This artifact was placed here by Astrael and his followers after their defeat in the Cosmic Crisis. Its purpose is to unleash chaos and pave the way for their return. The Seed has taken root in the form of a Blighted Tree, which is now manifesting increasingly dangerous phenomena."
She paused, letting the gravity of her words sink in. I could see the colors on Naomi's face, fade. Like she recognized who those people Inari's been talking about.
I felt the tension in the room as Inari’s words sank in. Naomi’s grip tightened on my hand, her face pale. This wasn’t just another mission. This was something bigger, something that could change everything.
"Inari." I began, my voice steady but filled with urgency, "What exactly was the Cosmic Crisis? And who are these people you mentioned?"
Aiko, the lead researcher of the Research Unit, stepped forward. She adjusted her glasses and began to explain. "The Cosmic Crisis was an event that threatened the very fabric of our reality. It involved a group of powerful beings led by Astrael, who sought to overthrow the Heavenly Principles and impose their own rule. They were beings of immense power, capable of manipulating the very laws of nature and reality."
Aiko leads the unit in researching and developing new cursed techniques, artifacts, and enhancements. Her expertise in deciphering ancient texts and artifacts allows her to uncover hidden secrets and unlock the potential of historical sorcery knowledge. She's graduated from Kyoto Jujutsu High a year ago. This is why she might've learned about the Cosmic Crisis that Inari's been talking about.
She paused, glancing at Naomi and Inari. "During the Crisis, the Guardians of the Stars fought valiantly to defend our realm. They played crucial roles in holding the line against Astrael and his followers. In the end, Astrael and his minions were defeated and supposedly obliterated."
Naomi took a deep breath, her eyes seemed to be haunted by the memories. "Astrael and his followers were not just powerful, they were relentless. They believed that chaos was the true nature of the universe, and they wanted to bring that chaos to our world. The Seed of Discord is a manifestation of their ideology."
