Surprise

The others were already waiting for us downstairs and had probably already helped themselves to breakfast. I was excited to see what Alastor wanted to present, he seemed proud. At first I feared it was another one of his commercials for the hotel, Charlie had told me about it, but he surprised me by pulling me towards the stairs after breakfast.

Charlie, Vaggie, and Angel were curious too, so they followed us up the stairs until we were at the top of the stairs and Alastor grabbed my arm to stop me from going any further.

"I heard that when you want to surprise people, you blindfold them before they see it." I nodded impatiently and tapped my toes in anticipation as Al painfully slowly pulled a cloth out of his pocket and blindfolded me.

Luckily he didn't seem to notice my goosebumps as his fingers brushed my sensitive ears and his breath warmly tickled the back of my neck. Once he had tightened the knot, he took me by the shoulders and led me down the corridor more carefully than I would have expected him to.

I followed the others with stumbling steps until after a surprisingly short time we stopped and I heard a door open. I felt an ice-cold hand on my neck, then the world became bright again.

I stood in a doorway, staring blankly at the room in front of me as Alastor proudly squeezed my shoulder. The room was huge, had a beautiful four poster bed and a balcony with fantastic view over the Pentagram.

But above all, everything was full of books. The walls were full of shelves, there were some on a small glass table that stood in front of the expansive fireplace and behind the table there was a reading corner in an elegant wine red lined with fluffy cushions.

I squealed happily and spun around to throw my arms around Alastor as he backed away with his ears folded back. I checked my excitement and gave him a worried look, but he caught himself and gave me a smile that showed all his sharp teeth.

This was probably supposed to reassure me, but it only made me worry more; I definitely had to go back on our deal and talk to him later. Now, however, I concentrated on my overwhelming joy.

I grinned brightly at Alastor and danced around the room, plopping down on the reading nook and looking at the backs of the books, deciding which ones I would devour first.

When I had explored every corner, I came back out of breath to Alastor, who, ever the gentleman he was, had been waiting outside the door. Angel and the others had probably gone back downstairs at some point.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you! That's so cool! Did you choose all the books yourself? When did you even prepare that? The reading corner is amazing, I've always wanted something like that!"

He laughed, "Careful dear. I had noticed that you had a passion for books and I picked books that I thought you would like. The ones on the table are mine, I thought they were so good that I definitely had to lend them to you. For someone like me, such a small renovation job doesn't take long. I finished the room shortly after sunrise. I'm very happy that you like it."

He had paid attention to what I liked to do? My heart felt warm and my stomach began to tingle, as if little sparks were dancing through my veins. "May I hug you?"

He sighed, "If it makes you happy." I waited a moment to make sure I wasn't attacking him, then I wrapped my arms around his middle. He stiffened at first, but after a while he started stroking my hair.

Smiling, I pulled away from him, but instead put my hand on his cheek. "Thank you, Alastor," I could tell he had lowered his mask a bit as there was real warmth in his ruby eyes and before he could adjust it again, I stood on tiptoes and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.

She didn't do that, did she!

Hey :-) You have no idea how tiring and time-consuming this chapter was. I initially planned to write the scene with Alastor's first commercial because I thought that after that a person important to the further plot would appear. I got half the chapter done, then I realized that's not true!

Then I wanted to write the scene where they shot a second spot and watched it together, but I couldn't find the damn scene, even though I spent hours searching YouTube for it. Then I thought, fuck it, I'll just pretend that Al meant Crimson's room when he said 'I have something to present'.

Ahhhh, I'm so frustrated that this didn't work out. Anyway, I hope you still had fun reading! This chapter was a little short, the next one will be longer and more plot-packed.

All the best, your Catnip <3

PS: I won't be there next week due to an external project and I don't know if I'll be able to write this week. We'll read each other then! (This note is almost longer than the chapter)
