chapter sixteen ❤︎︎
- kaliyah's pov -

Today was the day of mums surprise birthday party. Her and dad were about to be leaving for a day out together. I told him to keep his phone on him at all times so i could get hold of him if necessary.

Denise was going to get here after they leave, and we'd have a few hours to set everything up. Bunting, balloons, food etc. We had hidden everything at Denise's so she was bringing it over with her.

Party invites has been sent out a few days ago, we hadn't invited many. Just a few of mums old friends, family friends, and some extras. I had invited Audrey and she was coming a bit before everyone else so she could help me get ready.

Eventually Denise arrived, along with Jobe, who i was not expecting.

'Hey love.' She said, kissing my cheek.

'Hi.' I smiled. She was already bringing in all the bags, making her way to the lounge to start putting them all down.

'I didn't know you were coming.' I smirked at Jobe, he had bags in both hands so he just stood there, waiting for his mum to come and take them from him.

'I'm not sticking around for long.' He chuckled. 'I'm terrible at shit like this, i'll be back later though.'

'Language Jobe.' Denise tutted, taking the heavy bags from her son and leaving again.

'Ugh, boring.' I rolled my eyes at him.

'What you going to wear later?' He asked, leaning against the doorframe with his arms folded.

'You'll have to wait and see.' I shrugged.

'Ugh, boring.' He mocked me.

'Shut up. Start bringing more bags in.' I ordered.

'Yes ma'am.'

A few hours had passed and Denise and I were onto the finishing touches, the food was all ready on a big table in the kitchen. We had poured glasses of champagne for guests to help themselves to, and bunting was hung up around the house.

'It looks so good.' I came into the lounge, where Denise was finishing up writing a letter for mum.

'I really hope so, do you think she's going to like it?' she asked, seeming unsure.

'She'll love it.' I smiled. 'You're her bestest friend. Anything you do for her, she will appreciate.'

She smiled softly and i gave her a warm hug. Denise was like a second mum to me, although we obviously weren't biologically related, it did indeed feel like that with her.

The doorbell rung.

'I think that's Audrey. Are you okay down here if i start getting ready?' I asked.

'Of course love.' She nodded.

'Okay.'

I headed to the door and invited Audrey in. We headed straight up to my bedroom where she got out her dress, and makeup.
