A term passed since our Limes meeting, and Remus had no wind (and by wind i dont mean that kind that had run through your mind for a spilt second) of the Masquerade Ball. On the way to Potions with Ravenclaw, i was reading Romeo and Juliet, Remus had lent it to me. I was alone because the boys decided to go somewhere else for a moment, in otherwords, ditching me, and they said they’d see me in Potions. My head was down as I walked to the dungeons for potions. I knew the way by now and didn’t have to look where I was going. Except this time.
BANG!
I fell to the floor, books flying out of my bag, and my landing squarely on my bum. I look up to look at the wall but find myself looking at a handsome boy.
“Sorry” I muttered, gathering my books. He got up and helped with the ones I hadn’t collected.
“No, my apologies.” He said, extending a hand, “Peter Davies. 6th year, Ravenclaw Chaser and Prefect.”
“Robin Lynx Potter, fifth year, Gryffindor Seeker, nothing special.” I stated.
“D’you mind if I come with you to Potions?” he said.
“You’re going to potions too? Why not!” I said.
We walked and talked on the way to Potions. We had many of our greatest interests were in common.
When we walked into potions, we apologised for being late to old Sluggy and I waved at the Marauders. James was staring at his red-headed princess, and Remus smiled and glanced at James and Sirius. But Sirius’s face was odd. It was like he was trying to hide a face of fury, but failing badly, as his shrivelfig he was supposed to be dicing had already been reduced to green and yellow dust, and his face had contorted into an angry grimace. I sat down beside him and Peter sat beside. Sirius snorted.
“What’s wrong my daring knight? You should stop dicing your shrivelfig, might I add.” I whispered.
He stopped chopping, gave a huge sigh, and scraped the dust into his cauldron.
“Who’s blondie over there?” he said gruffly, jerking his head to Peter.
“blondie, is Peter Davies, of Ravenclaw. He’s a sixth year, remember?” I said irritably. He already has the cold shoulders for someone he barely knows! What’s with him?
Peter took his hand out as if to shake but withdrew it quickly at the look on Sirius’s face.
“Grumpy fellow is he?” he said quietly.
“Normally isn’t. Let’s go make our potion.” I replied shortly.
We sat in silence making our potion, with the occasional whisper between James, Remus and Sirius. Professor Slughorn was walking by looking at the student’s potions, with the occasional praises. When he stopped at us.
“Well! I’d never thought I’d see you four working somewhat quietly!” He boomed. His eyes traced over the four of us and stops to a halt at Peter. “I see you four have found a friend? And I am assuming he is the one keeping you quiet?”
We nodded silently and gave sidelong glances at each other, before Sirius, Remus and I looked down and continued on our potions. James eye’s slid from Slughorn back to Lily. Lily’s hand shot up and James toppled out of his stool with a loud thud. Lily looked at James lying in a heap, and looking as though she was about to laugh, but she looked back at Slughorn meaningfully and Slughorn said, “Yes, Lily m’dear?” as James crawled back on his chair.
“Prefects were due to Head Girl around about now sir. D’you mind if any prefects in this class could leave?” Lily said politely.
“Yes, of course. All prefects, follow Miss Evans.” Professor said, opening the door.
Remus sighed, Glanced at us, and followed Lily out. Another boy, probably from Ravenclaw, left as well. I heard Sirius whisper something to James, but James shook his head, but at the same moment, they both glared at Peter. I sighed, and returned to my potion. What was with them?
“is he your new boyfriend?” Sirius asked savagely, James watching attentively.
“NO!” I shouted angrily. Sirius looked taken aback. “No. I just met him on the way to potions” I replied more quietly.
“is there something wrong Miss Potter?” Slughorn asks.
I shook my head and leaned to Sirius. “What have you got against him?”
“Just watch out for him, I heard he’s a player.” He said.
I snorted. Like I was going to take advice from him about who’s a player and who’s not.
-w-
A month passed, and James and Sirius still assumed we were more than friends. But we weren’t, we only hung out with each other. Or so I thought. On Saturday, I met Peter waiting outside Gryffindor tower on my way to breakfast alone, because the others ditched me.
“Hi. Alright, no beating around the bush.”he said more to himself.
I stared. Beating about the bush? What’s that supposed to mean? I thought.
“We’ve been hanging out alot lately, and I feel a certain bond. I think were made for each other. Will you be my girlfriend?” he said.
“Why not. Just, on one condition, no mushy stuff.” I said simply, and we walked off to the breakfast hall. But a sudden thought came to my mind. Sirius’s advice. As if he could be a player. He’s too polite. I thought. But a nasty little voice in my head said what if it was a lie? A hoax? I don’t know anymore! But I already agreed, so why not make the best out of it? I countered.
As we sat down, Sirius glared at Peter as we sat down. How am I going to tell James, let alone Sirius? Remus would be understanding, but James is my overprotecting brother! And Sirius, he looks so jealous when he saw us enter together. It’s like although he likes me! But that’s absurd! I should tell them in the dorm, so Peter doesn’t get hurt.
The rest of the day turned out usual, besides the mutinous whispering between Sirius and James, Remus being unusually inattentive during class, and all three giving side-long glances at Peter and I. When the last class of the day ended, and we left to the common room, Sirius asked, “Watching out for him?”
I looked at him, shocked. “As a matter of fact, I was just going to give you news in the dormitory. Just you wait.” I said, winking, but receiving three suspicious looks.
When we got to the sixth year boys dormitory, James and Sirius asked simultaneously, “What’s the news?”. While Remus’s eyes scanned the three of us.
“Peter asked me to be his girlfriend.” I said, picking up Romeo and Juliet and staring to read.
“WHAATTTT?!” James and Sirius yelled, causing me to drop my book. At the same time, Remus said, “Congratulations.”
“I told you to watch out for him Robin!” Sirius said angrily, discarding the use of Gorgeous.
“He hasn’t started anything bad!” I replied, “And what have you got against him? What has he done to you?”
“Because – “ Sirius started, but stopped immediately.
“Because...” I said slowly.
“Because nothing!” Sirius said quickly. “Good night!” And without further ado, flopped onto his bed.
I raised an eyebrow at Remus and James, but they avoided eye-contact with me. “good night.”
I didn’t sleep until 12:30am, because I was trying to guess what Sirius was going to say.
