Chapter 5- Shadows Over St. Petersburg

It was the first time in months the temperature exceeded 20 degrees celsius. Leonid and Aleksander jacked a new car and went on a trip to Moscow. They were met with 3 Guardian Corps’ checkpoints on their way to Moscow. After 5 days of travel they finally reached Moscow where they started to devise a new plan. The guardian corps were really active at this time as Supreme Guardian- Ivan Makhilov felt that a terror attack was coming and he was correct it was coming. Leonid and Aleksander got wind of a secret Guardian Corps meeting to be held on  6th august in St Petersburg and knew what was the next act. A class 2 attack of assassinating Chief Guardian the person directly under the Supreme Guardian and a highly esteemed ex-general of russia who was one of the best generals in the Russo-Finnish war Chief Guardian Nikolai Petrovich.

Leonid and Aleksander made their way to Pskov and bought a heavy sniper and swiftly evaded the Guardian Corps and then reached St Petersburg where they began devising their attack.The meeting was to be held in a top secret Guardian Corps headquarters surrounded by many abandoned under construction buildings Aleksander scouted the area and saw their only option to assassinate.

Their hideout for this operation was not in St Petersburg itself but in an urban locality east of St Petersburg. The distance between their hideout and the Guardian Corps building was great and it took 3 hours to travel from point A to point B and vice versa. Aleksander sent the details about everything he had scouted to Leonid and while Aleksander was making his way back to the hideout Leonid started to prepare a plan.

6th August,2004
Leonid and Aleksander sitting in the car near the Guardian Corps secret meeting hall. Leonid is wearing a surgical mask and glasses with a box in which lies a heavy sniper. Aleksander dressed in a Guardian Corps’ uniform with a fake gun which actually is a box containing explosives.There are two motorbikes which are their getaway under the construction side Leonid is gonna go in with the sniper. Leonid makes his way up and so does Aleksander. Aleksander swiftly enters the building acting like a patrol guard, goes into each and every bathroom and broom closet in the building and rigs them with explosives and a device which would transmit a message 3 seconds before the detonation. After placing all the bombs Leonid leaves without leaving a trace and changes into normal Russian looking clothes and  makes his way onto the motorbike.

The meeting begins and is  going smoothly. Leonid prepares his shot and takes aim. Halfway through the meeting, Leonid presses the trigger of the sniper and shoots the Chief Guardian of the Guardian Corps Nikolai Petrovich. Nikolai's face instantly faces down and starts bleeding. The meeting room is in panic and Nikolai drops dead.The whole Guardian Corps inside the building has been alerted about the assassination.Leonid runs down and also makes his way onto the bike. They go 100 meters away from the building and Aleksander presses the bomb switch. A loud robotic voice fills the atmosphere which speaks out “RUN! SHE’S GONNA  BLOW” (referring to the bombs Aleksander placed)

A loud bang fills the atmosphere and a deafening roar can be heard. The meeting hall is fully blown and is in shambles. Emergency sirens start blaring throughout St Petersburg. The police and SWAT teams immediately respond to the situation but no individual was found near the buildings.

Leonid and Aleksander go to a remote location 30 minutes away from their hideout and burn the bikes and walk the rest of the way to their hideout. As soon as they reach their hideout, a gun switch can be heard behind them.  They both swiftly take out their hidden pistols from their jacket and point it behind them in a matter of seconds, but they see no one.

Suddenly, they hear a deep and slow voice saying “I come in peace.”. And reveals himself to Leonid and Aleksander. A tall white man whose body language and voice sounded Western yet Eastern, wearing a mask, came before the two friends. “Hello, my name is Nicholas Makhilov."
