22/7/23
Kayra sat in shock, jaw dropped after Maria told her about her life in California. "Goodness" She stuttered looking at the brunette beside her. "Is your... coach okay?"
"Yeah, he's doing good" Maria smiled thinking of the Rodrigues family and her old coach. "I just couldn't go back to USC without him, it felt wrong. I needed to start over, that's why I came here"
"I see" Kayra nodded.
"Sorry, that was a little deep for only knowing you four hours"
Kayra's eyes creased as she smiled warmly. "I love getting to know people and what makes them tick." There was something about Maria's loyalty to her old coach, that made Kayra like him already. The brunette spoke of him with such appreciation and admiration that Kayra could tell exactly what sort of person he was without ever meeting him.
"Okay now you have to tell me about you" Maria hummed pointing her spoon at the girl across from her.
"Where do I even start?" Kayra chuckled.
The two girls stayed in the cafe for another two hours sharing stories and about their homes. Kayra was from Florida and she came to UConn on a tennis scholarship. Maria adored how passionate she was about everything and the love she had for all her friends and family. The two girls had clicked almost instantly and Maria could tell they were going to be good friends.

29/7/23Beep. Beep. Beep.
Maria groaned and rolled over in her bed, she'd already pressed the snooze button atleast three times.
"Maria! Get up" Kayra threw a pillow at her from the other side of the room. "Your alarm is doing my head in" She held her hands up to block her ears.
"Okay, okay. I'm up" Maria climbed out of bed and rubbed her eyes, looking at the time, 7.13am. She blinked twice to make sure she was reading the clock right.
Shit.
"Kayra! Why didn't you wake me up earlier? I'm going to be late" Maria exclaimed grabbing a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie from her drawer and running into the bathroom to get ready.
"Bitch, you would have been on time but you snoozed the alarm like four times, and I'm not your mom" Kayra groaned rolling out of bed herself and rummaging in her desk for a protein bar. She threw it at Maria as she ran back into the room.
"Thanks boo" Maria grinned as she stuffed the bar into her tote bag along with a textbook and her laptop. "So much for a good first impression" She looked at herself in the mirror for a minute, quickly brushing her hair and putting it up into a bun. She glanced at the clock again 7.19am. "I need to get better with my time management"
