Chapter Twelve

Azzi sat with Maria in the medical room. The basketball team had check ups with Andrea's interns today. Maria had gotten through the appointments with all of her patients. Almost all of them, a certain blonde hadn't shown up yet. When she had finished with Azzi, Nika and Aubrey, Maria had helped Lily and Justin, by taking on one of each of their patients, but after getting through the extra work there was still no sign of Paige. Azzi had offered to stay behind to keep Maria company. The company was welcomed by Maria, who'd been getting bored by herself. Azzi had texted Paige to ask her where she was, but hadn't got response.
"This girl, she's actually going to be the death of me someday" Azzi groaned throwing her phone to the floor "I wish she'd just take her phone off silent for once"
"It's fine, she's not your responsibility Az" Maria checked the time on her phone, 5.37pm. They had started at four o'clock, so that they could be finished by half five, but with Paige still missing Maria wasn't sure if she should wait for her or leave.
Andrea poked her head around to door to where Azzi and Maria sat on the medical bed. "Paige hasn't shown up yet?" Maria and Azzi both shook their heads in sync. "Okay well, Maria you can leave now, Paige will just have to have her appointment some other time. Can you reschedule it for sometime this week?"
Azzi noticed the defeated look on Maria's face, but she admired how she didn't let Andrea see "That's fine, I'll text her the details for her new checkup"
"Thanks Maria. I appreciate the effort" Andrea gave them both a thumbs up before leaving. Maria let out a sigh. "I'd tell Andrea no, but I'm really hoping to get an internship here after our assignments over, so I really need Andrea to see me as a hard worker"
"You are a hard worker and in my humble opinion" Azzi stood up putting her hand on her chest dramatically "One of the best physios I've ever met" Azzi patted her on the back, before getting up to help her tidy up the equipment.
"Don't flatter me" Maria grinned, helping Azzi tidy the desk.
"Hey, to help cheer you up, how about we go to the cafe? My treat" She smiled warmly at the brunette.
"If you're paying, how could I say no?" Maria couldn't be more grateful for the people she'd met at UConn, even if her situation with Paige was tense, her friends always knew how to cheer her up.
The two girls left the gym in high spirits. Maria really need some caffeine in her system. They had midterm exams coming up and she'd been stressed trying to manage training, classwork and the assignment with the basketball team. Plus, now she was going to have to reschedule Paige in for another time, which was only going to cause more hassle.
