Chapter 10: Closing In

0013 has slowly begin moving his pawns into place as he observed the Recon Force using the surveillance drones

"Seems like we will not do much." A General said as he stares at 0013

"Seems like it, Sir." 0013 said as he stares at the monitor

"Be ready for any monster that would appear. We are the rear guard after all." The general said while looking at the monitor

"Yes, sir." 0013 said as he stares at his monitor

"Good." The General said as he stares at the movement of the Recon Force

0013 stares at the vehicles splitting and he continue observing their movements

"Seems like they have a thought out plan." 0013 thought while giving updates to the General

"Continue observing." The General said as he stares at 0013

"Yes, Sir." 0013 said as he stares at the monitor while slowly feeding the maximal classes to his omega class monsters 

Meanwhile, Shinomiya is watching at the control room silently before shifting his gaze at the map 

"Kuro, Shiro, team up. Leno, Aoshiro you too. You will combine the points that you have marked and you will cover these grounds together" Shinomiya said as he stares at the map

"Huh? Why?" Leno asked as he stares at the drone

"Let's call it gut feeling. I have a bad feeling about this one." Shinomiya said as he clenches his fist

"Roger that." Kuro and Shiro said as they move their vehicles to the location of Leno and Aoshiro

"Roger." Aoshiro and Leno said as they move together

The four platoons have combined into two units as they move together, moving deeper into the streets while covering each other

Shinomiya stares at the map while feeling chills in his nape before changing the view of the map to video mode

"What's going on?" Long asked as he stares at Shinomiya

"I don't know but something feels off." Shinomiya said as he pulled up all the footage of the drones in the monitor

0013 smiles as he stares at the actions of the Recon Force and slowly releasing the middle class, and small class monsters on to the city.

"Middle and Small class monsters located! They are moving around the masses!" Long said on the radio

"Where did they popped out of?" Shinomiya asked as he stares at Long

"They came out of nowhere but by the looks of it from the crevices and manholes near the masses." Long said as he stares at the monitor

"Keep monitoring their numbers. They could be produced by the masses. Kotaro, I want you to hold the RnD's advance." Shinomiya said on the radio

"Roger." Kotaro said on the radio

Shinomiya stares at the monitor while watching the Recon Force destroy the middle class and small class monsters with ease.

In Leno and Aoshiro's units, they have devised a formation that would enable the long range hitters to hit their mark much faster. 

Their formation consists of the heavy hitters and close range weapons at the front and back, the long range shooters are in the middle being sandwich, while the support and healing units are being protected by Leno and Aoshiro.

Several members of the recruits are scattered throughout the vanguard and rear guard due to their overwhelming presence in the battle.

Jim, Barry, Dartnel, andJanice are the only ones in the middle while the rest are both in the vanguard and rearguard.

In the Vanguard, Steven, Joichi, and Let are moving forward while clearing the middle classes before sweeping through the small class monsters

"Those guys have improved so much." Leno said as he stares at the hologram

"They are already part of the squad." Aoshiro said as he stares at the hologram

Steven runs to the wall and slices two middle class monsters before spinning in the air and switching weapon summoning two sub-machine guns and fired at the small monsters below

Joichi watches with a confident smile while covering Steven

Let whistled as he followed Joichi

The squadrons have began moving forward changing positions as they converge towards the city hall which is located directly at the center of the city as the monsters have retreated that way

"What's going?" Leno asked as he stares at the hologram

"These mission seems to be so easy." Aoshiro said as he stares at the hologram

"We're moving deeper into the city." Shiro said on the radio

"Seems like we are heading towards a trap." Kuro said on the radio

Gun fire and orders overlapping on the radio as the recon force move towards the monsters

"Do you see any signs of maximal class monsters?" Shinomiya asked as he stares at the monitor

"No, Sir. There are no signs. However, the monsters have move towards the direction then proceed to fight us." Kuro said on the radio

"Roger. What's the current vitals on the masses?" Shinomiya asked as he stares at the radio

"These masses seem dormant." Leno said on the radio "We need the Research and Demolition here." He continue while watching several masses on the buildings

"Copy. Kotaro, you're up." Shinomiya said on the radio

"Roger. We will reach every location in 30 seconds. I need you guys to keep the monsters occupied. Every second is important to these guys." Kotaro said on the radio

"Copy." Leno said on the radio before gesturing several shooters at one mass

"Roger." Aoshiro said as he move parts of the shooters towards one mass

"Mass location secure." Shiro said on the radio

"Mass perimeter secure." Kuro said on the radio

"Middle class and small class monsters exterminated." Steven said on the radio while slashing three monsters in one swing

"Copy. Regroup on me." Leno said on the radio

"Roger." Steven said as he run back towards the location of Leno

0013 watches the situation silently as he stares at the clock before giving update to the General

The General deployed the marines with their researchers to help the Recon Force cover grounds

"Your help is very much welcome." Long said on the radio

Shinomiya stares at the monitor with a stoic expression as the RnD gets deployed

"What's this uneasiness that I feel?" Shinomiya thought as he stares at his hands shaking

"What is this?!" An officer shouted as he stares at his monitor "3000 middle class, 20000 small class, and 300 maximals spotted!" The officer shouted as he stares at Shinomiya with a horrified expression

Shinomiya, Long, and the rest of the officers in the room stares at him with a surprised expression

"What's their location?!" Shinomiya asked as he run towards the officer

"The maximals are surrounding the coast. The small class monsters are now moving towards the location of every masses!" The officer said as he stares at his monitor

"What the fuck is going on?!" Long asked as he stares at his monitor "WHY DIDN'T WE PICK THIS UP?!" He continued asked while looking at several officers

"The sensors were not able to scan their signatures!" An officer said while looking at the sensors

"Huh?! That's impossible! These sensors are made to detect every movement of monsters coming from the known sources!" Long said as he stares at his monitor

"Then these guys did not come from these sources. They are tailored made." Shinomiya said as he stares at the monitor of the officer

"What should we do then!?" Long asked as he stares at Shinomiya

"Notify all forces on the ground. We need to sweep the small class monsters before those middle class monsters make a move." Shinomiya said as he walk towards the middle of the room

"Copy that." Long said as he relayed the situation to the officers on the ground

"What in the fuck is going on?" Leno asked as he whistled to the troop members on the rooftop

"The small class monsters are closing in. We got about 1 minute." A troop member said while looking at his scope

"Switch to explosive rounds. I need those small monsters cleared." Leno said on the radio

"Roger." Steven, Joichi, Let, Jona, Robert, and Let said as they dashes forward towards the small class monsters

"Are you guys gonna let the recruits take the lead on this one?" Leno asked as he stares at the recruits

The troop members all dashes forward faster than the recruits as they begin clearing the small monsters

All troop members have begun exterminating the small class monsters while the RnD began their research on the masses

Meanwhile, in the vanguard, Steven began clearing the monsters before inhaling sharply

"Suit Release, 50%" Steven said as he launch himself forward slicing a horde of small class monsters in one swing

"What a monster." A troop member said as he continued exterminating the monsters

A few minutes later, the recon forces are clearing the small class monsters but the numbers are starting to pile up and they begins to get overwhelmed.

0013 watches the situation with a stoic expression while blinking multiple times

"Seems like these level is way too easy. Let's add a difficulty." 0013 thought as he ordered the middle class monsters to move

The middle class monsters began moving, their numbers have joined up with the small class monsters

Shinomiya stares at the middle class monsters with a surprised expression

"These is definitely the hivemind's influence...!" Shinomiya thought as he stares at the monitor

In the field, the recon forces have began experiencing malfunctions as their suits overheated

"Oh for fuck sake!" A troop member shouted as his gun malfunctioned before he is taken down by one small monster

The small monsters began moving towards him as they began eating his body, pulling his limbs one by one as he screamed while his internal organs are being eaten

The rest of the troop members rushes to his aid but all of them are overwhelmed by the numbers of the small monsters and they are eaten as well

0013 faked his reaction as he stares at his monitor as the Recon Forces get eaten one by one. However, his mind is beginning to absorb all the intel from the eaten brain of the troop members.

"Get the marines to assist the Recon Forces!" The General shouted as he stares at 0013

"They are already engaging the monsters, sir!" 0013 said as he stares at his monitor

"Send more!" The General said as he stares at the monitor

"Yes, sir!" 0013 said as he gives the order to the marines

The marines arrived with their tanks as they began firing at the wave of the small monsters

The Recon Force charges through the small monsters while also coordinating with the attack of the marines

The recruits have also began experiencing a lower output on their weapons even though they are not fully releasing the power of their suits

"Their numbers are increasing!" Joichi said as he continue kill multiple monsters

Steven dashes forward as he fired his gun at the middle of the monsters with explosive rounds blowing away the majority as he pants

"We need to retreat and find a way to keep them at bay!" Joichi said as he stares at Steven

"I agree." Steven said as he stares at the small class monsters arriving

Akari jumped from a building and slices through multiple monsters all at once before staring at Steven

"Seems like the calvary is here." Steven said as he smiles before staring at Joichi "Akari and I will handle the small class monsters, regroup with Leno and tell him about the situation." Steven said as he stares at Joichi

Leno fired the flare of retreat and the rest of the troop members begins retreating

"Right." Joichi said as he runs with the troop members
