Chapter 17: A Broken Resolve

Steven and Shiro stares at the approaching monster who imitated the Greek God of the Time, Kronos and the massive shackles that he is dragging

"That monster could destroy this base in a minute." Steven said as he stares at Kronos

"That's not all. There are also monsters who are of the same level as that monster behind him." Shiro said as he grit his teeth

"We are outmatched in every thing they got here." Steven said as he stares at the cyclops approaching them

"We can't fight like this. I need to get my left arm ready. Help me." Shiro said as he fixed the joints on his shoulder before screaming then whimpered as he pants

Steven summon two swords as he stares at Shiro then shifted his gaze at the approaching cyclops

"I'll be the vanguard." Steven said as he stares at Shiro

"I got your back." Shiro said as he stares at Steven while holding his gun

Steven nods then dashes forward before hopping forward then slices the body of the cyclops multiple times

Shiro leaned towards the wall for support as he begin firing his gun on the cyclops behind Steven

In the control room, Long and Naho are calculating the distance and the nearest unit to send on Sector 2-Foxtrot. 

"We have the Steven's platoon. They are close by. However, they wouldn't last long. We need a bigger unit." Naho said as he stares at Long

"We are sending his platoon first." Long said as he stares at the map "Steven platoon, you heard that?" He asked as he stares at the profile of the platoon

"Yes, sir." Jona said as she runs at full speed while sweat are forming on her face

"Jona! Slow down! We don't know if there are monsters in our position!" Let said as he run following Jona

The rest of the platoon are following Jona trying to keep up with her as they call to her nam

Jona can't hear anything as she continue moving faster while gritting her teeth

"Steven!" Jona thought as she hops around the building while running forward

Robert, Joichi, Let, Jim, and Jean are dashing forward as they all thought the same thing as Jona realizing that Steven is alone in enemy territory

Akari dashes forward faster than them as she gritted her teeth while panicked are overcoming her thoughts

"Steven-nii!" Akari thought as she dashes forward slicing through several monsters emerging from the ground

Meanwhile, in Sector 2-Foxtrot, Steven is starting to get covered in blood as he continue slicing through hordes and hordes of monsters while panting as he landed in front of Shiro

"Steven's amazing. However, his blades are starting to get chipped. His stamina is falling and his attacks are getting weaker. We won't last long." Shiro said as he reloaded while looking over Steven's back "Control room, how long will the reinforcement arrive? We won't last long here." Shiro said as he fired his weapon covering Steven's back

"We got Steven's platoon arriving in a few minutes." Long said on the radio "We are scrambling every units we can gather but it will take time. We don't know how long the timeframe is." He continue while looking at Naho

"I'll go." Hokita said as she smiles while dashing forward with her platoon

 "Hitako! You are 3 kilometers away from Foxtrot." Naho said as he stares at his monitor

"Doesn't matter. I will reach Foxtrot." Hitako said as she continue dashing forward

"Hey, Long." Kotaro said as he stares from the sky "Did you forget that I exist?" He asked as he stares at the ground

"Kotaro! Where are you!?" Long asked as he stares at the monitor

"Above Sector  2-Foxtrot. That's a massive monster. However, it wouldn't matter as long as it's still a monster." Kotaro said as he smiles widely before several troop members jumped from the plane

The dragon is falling from the sky behind them as the machine gunner inside the plane is busy destroying the pterodactyls flying around the sky

"Who's guarding the back?" Long asked as he stares at Kotaro

"I left it to the 2nd Squad." Kotaro said as he stares at Shiro and Steven before jumping from the plane

Shiro stares at the sky when multiple explosive rounds landed on to the ground blasting the Cyclops 

Stevens stares at the sky with a surprised expression while exhaling in relief as he pants

"Steven. Don't relax now. There are still monsters in the area." Shiro said as he stares all around them

"Yes, sir." Steven said as he inhale before a monster emerges from the smoke and swing his fist towards Steven

Steven's eyes widened as he stares at the monster before lifting his arm to defend but he get blasted towards the building behind him crashing through the pillar

"Steven!" Shiro shouted as he stares at Steven "Shit! He took that attack head on!" He said while firing his gun towards the monster

The monster blocked the attack with it's arm completely taking the attack head on

"Shit...!" Shiro thought as he continue firing the weapon towards the monster "My output is getting lower! This is not good!" He said before his ammo runs out

The monster smiles widely before swinging his fist towards Shiro attempting to crush him in one punch

Steven emerges from the smoke and slices the monster's arm before jumping back out and slash his head then stab the swords on the monster's back and slides down slicing his body open before slicing the core multiple times and then using his shoulder as a launch pad then jump to the rooftop where Shiro is

"Steven!" Shiro said as he stares at Steven

Steven pants as he wipe the blood of his forehead as he has a craze smile on his face

"You monsters... really sure are making me angry." Steven said as his blade snaps then he threw the hilt away as two sword formed on his arms "Suit Full Release." Steven said as he inhale sharply before dashing forward slicing into multiple cyclops while moving at incredible speed

Shiro covered his eyes but he stares at Steven with a surprised expression

"Steven release 80%!" An officer said as he stares at Long

"Seems like we are worrying for nothing." Long said as he stares at Steven from the live feed

"That's the full release of someone who just joined this year?!" Kotaro asked as he stares at Steven "Well, if he is getting personal daily training by Captain Shinomiya, I guess that's the result." Kotaro said as he smiles widely before landing on top of a monster then fired his gun on the center of his head blowing his entire internal organs including the core

Steven hops across the body of the monster he slain while moving towards the next monster then slices it's body in two before landing on the ground and switching suit before summoning a shield to block the attack of two monsters before switching suits again and slices their body with his axe before switching to a claymore then slices the body of multiple monsters as he landed on a rooftop before stabbing the sword into the ground

"No matter how many times I slice the more I want to do it more." Steven said as he smiles widely as he summoned two swords "What's this feeling? It feels incredibly good." He said while dashing forward as he slashes through multiple monsters at once before going back to slice multiple more

"What's this?!" Long asked as he stares at his monitor "Steven's heartbeat is starting to beat faster." He said while looking at the monitor

"He is being consumed by the suits he is wearing. He is covered in monster's blood. The more he does so, the more hungrier he gets. If he doesn't undo his release, he will be consumed by the suits and his body will crumble from the heavy recoil." Naho said as he stares at Long

"Steven! This is Long from the control room. Slow down." Long said as he stares at the live feed showing Steven slicing through multiple monsters

"I can't slow down." Steven said as he slices through a monster in one attack before jumping in the air as he smiles widely while making a downward slash

The monster holding  Kuro run towards Steven and swing his fist in the air

Steven hops into a building then dashes forward slicing the arm on the monsters multiple times before spinning and slicing the eyes then stabbed his swords on his body then slides down before jumping back and making a huge horizontal slash slicing his body in two

"There's his core!" Steven said as he squinted his eyes before soaring in the air as he stabbed the core crushing it then crashing towards a roof top rolling on the ground

Shiro, Long, and Naho stares at Steven with a surprised expression as they see him struggling to stand up

"There it is! The recoil...!" Naho said as he gritted his teeth "IF we lose, Steven at this time, we can't defend Sector 2-Foxtrot!" Naho said as he stares at Long

"I know... but there's nothing I can do!" Long thought as he gritted his teeth

"Control Room, this is Shinomiya. Don't stop Steven." Shinomiya said as he stares at the direction of 2-Foxtrot "I didn't train him to be devour by his suit. Believe in him. Have the rest of platoons arriving to divert the other monsters around Steven so he could breathe in between attacks. That's what he need right now." He said on the radio

"Yes, sir." Long said as he stares at the monitor

Steven stood up and stares at his broken swords before chuckling

"Oh well. I broke so many now." Steven said as he exhale while his breathing becomes steady as he stares at the monsters around him

The monsters begin moving towards Steven when several lazer flew from the opposite direction as Jona, Joichi, Robert, Let arrived

Akari dashes forward as she slices through multiple monsters behind Steven

"Don't hog all the fun, you crazy old man!" Akari said as she landed on to a water tank

Jona stabbed her spear through the core of a monster before landing in front of Steven

"Here. Wipe the blood." Jona said as she handed Steven her handkerchief

"Thanks." Steven said as he smiles widely before undoing the release

"You hold out well." Kotaro said as he stares at Steven as he landed on the other rooftop

The rest of the units arrived and they attack the monsters inside the wall

"The reinforcements are here?" Shiro said as he sighed in relief

"Shiro-san!" A medic said as she treated Shiro

"Check on Steven too." Shiro said as he pants

"Yes, sir. We have a unit sent to him." The medic said as she stares at Shiro

"That's good." Shiro said before he rested as he stares at Steven

Multiple units arrived using armored cars with trucks carrying the replacement railguns and cannons as the techs begin working on placing them to the walls

"Create a perimeter around the smashed wall! I want those railguns ready! We have approaching monsters! Get platoons covering the top of the wall, some of the cannons there are still working!" Kotaro ordered as multiple troops begin working as soon as they heard the order "Get those artillery unit working! We don't have enough time! Get working!" He ordered as he jump towards Steven

"Kotaro." Steven said as he stares at Kotaro while the medics are checking his wounds

"We'll take it from here." Kotaro said as he smiles before jumping forward attacking the monsters

Steven sat on the floor leaning onto the wall while staring at the medics

"Please let me fight more." Steven said as he stares at the medic

"No!" Jona said as she stares at Steven "You did more than enough!" She said while looking at Steven

"I can't let you guys go in there without your platoon leader." Steven said as he stares at the medic

"Your wounds are deep. You can't take much mor than this." The medic said as he stares at Steven

"No..." Steven said as he stares at the ground

"Steven. This is not the time to fight the doctor..." Jona said as she stares at Steven

"I can't send you all there." Steven said as he stares at Jona

"Steven. You got two hours. Rest then I'll allow you to join." Shinomiya said on the radio

"Captain?" Steven asked as he stares at Jona

"For now take the time to heal your wounds." Shinomiya said on the radio

"Yes, sir." Steven said as he nods at the medic

The recon forces regain the control on the walls then they begins working on placing the defenses on the wall

The monster imitating Kronos stares at the wall before squinting it's eye then roared sending shockwave destroying the buildings in front of him

Steven, Kotaro, and the rest of the troop members stares at the monster with a surprised expression

Kronos stood up and stomp on to the ground as smoke comes out of his mouth as he exhaled

"So, he is coming?" Kotaro said as he stares at Kronos

"Here he comes." Steven said as he stares at Kronos

Kronos squinted his eyes before slamming one of his shackles to the ground destroying a part o the wall and killing several troop members who didn't managed to move away

"Tsk." Kotaro said as he stares at Kronos

"You really think you can win?" Kronos asked as his body slowly shrinked down

Kotaro stares at Kronos with a surprised expression

After a few minutes, Kronos's body became a humanoid. He stood at 6 feet tall with a muscular build. His hair is a long red hair with a glowing red eyes.

"This guy..." Jona said as she raised her guard high

"What overwhelming pressure...!" Joichi said as he raised his guard

"We can't beat this guy alone." Kotaro said as he stares at Kronos

"Shall we?" Kronos stares at the recon force with a stoic expression before dashing forward

 A huge smoke exploded in front of the wall
