EDITED
Over the next few weeks you and Seongnam settled into your roles well, finding them almost natural. And despite you not being able to take on one of your main roles, to control the imperial harem you had taken on a new job. Ensuring all the princes do well enough to make their way into the world, with the help of their mothers too.
It became quite comforting for you, to be able to talk to these women and learn all these hacks to parenthood from multiple different perspectives. Whilst also being able to spend your day with women rather than being cooped up inside. You felt free.
"Oh your majesty, the public sentencing is tomorrow. I'm sure you have your front row seat picked out." Lady Tae said coming over to you and practically grabbing your arm. "Lady Ko and I were going to try and get seats near you." She said signalling Lady Ko who had come to join you two. Now that the consorts were widows they became Lady, as Seongnam thought it was fit for them to bring up their sons rather than be separated.
"I don't even know if I'll be attending."
"You have to. After all you were the one to strike down the beast." Lady Ko said practically smiling at the fact she could now use such words to describe the woman.
"I will have to check with the King before I make any arrangements."
"Aww such a lovely couple, I'm envious that my marriage wasn't as intimate." Lady Tae complained.
"Although the connections may not have been as strong, you both have two strong and healthy sons. Nothing can replace them." They both smiled at your words.
"I'm glad that they can be who they want to be now, no stress of being the heir but instead they can follow passions they desire." Lady Ko smiled and speaking of the boys they all emerged from their classroom.
"And you have a beautiful grandchild, lady Ko. Sooyoung doesn't stop parading her around every time she visits." You joked with your friends mother in law.
"They were young love , but it made him happy and that's all I wished for." She smiled , her son no longer a student in the classes for the princes but now a student to become a scholar.
"Once day youll be in our position your majesty, and you'll never have felt a happiness like it." You smiled at lady Tae's words. They were so simple and honest yet carried so much weight. Soon you will be in their position. And you were excited but also nervous for that path.
"You both have to come and visit me once you leave the palace, or I will come and visit you." You said going to miss their company, as along with them receiving titles Seongnam has promised them estates when their sons leave the palace. Well you say Seongnam promised it but it was a case well fought by you and the Queen dowager. These women no longer had their husband and their families line had continued without the thought of any of them, so they needed the help to be able to stand on their own in a society that favoured the men.
"Ofcourse , you'll have to update us on all the palace gossip too." Lady Tae smirked.
"I'm sure it won't be as crazy as having all of us around" Lady Ko commented causing you all to laugh.
"I wouldn't be so sure of that, it is still the palace." You commented before the three of you entered the lecture hall to sit in on the days lesson.
Hours later Seongnam walked into your quarters , coming straight to you as you sat outside in the evening sun. He kissed your forehead as he placed down his work on the table and sat next to you.
"You're back earlier than usual." You commented , finding it rare to see your husband whilst the sun still shone brightly.
"I only have a few reports left to read for the day, I thought I'd read them in bed or when I wake up in the morning. I'm not stressed over when." He shared whilst grabbing your hand into his. Holding it softly as he let the sun shine on his face.
