This is a special episode , not impacting the story of Seongnam x Y/n.
There's a trigger warning of domestic violence, it's a fact that DV is still common in Korean households so i believed it is an important issue to highlight. I do not support these actions and hope that anyone experiencing DV knows that there is a way out and they can be safe again.
Gyeseong always knew he was different to his brothers. He tried to be like them but there was always something in the back of his mind that pulled him towards objects that his gender was stereotypically against. He saw the makeup women would get to wear and the dresses that were so bright and beautifully embroidered . He couldn't help but be intrigued, wishing for something he wasn't so sure about.
"Did you hear?" Muan said looking at his younger brother.
"What?" Gyeseong replied being pulled out of his day dreaming.
"Your head is always in the clouds, little brother. I was saying about Seongnam."
"What happened to brother?"
"Him and his friends accidentally caught a Kisaeng leaving Lord Min's residence." Muan laughed "that old man is crazy"
"Are you sure it was that?"
"Eungsik went bright red from embarrassment, there's no way it wasn't that." Muan continued to laugh. "Plus it's so obvious , how they have their hair and clothes. It's all too extreme to impress men."
"Maybe they are doing it to make themselves feel beautiful." Gyeseong said to his brother which just earnt a laugh.
"It doesn't look beautiful it looks like it's begging for attention." Muan carelessly commented on their clothing. Women were a secondary gender in this society and Gyeseong's brothers comments just proved how normalised it was. "Nobody wants a wife like that." Muan said before walking ahead and leaving Gyeseong alone. The words flooding through Gyeseongs brain, although they weren't directed at him he couldn't help but feel offended by them. Leaving the young prince to pause in his steps in the middle of the street.
Giggles distracted the boy from his thoughts, causing him to look at a group of noble girls chatting together as they walked through the street. A similar age of him. He looked at them as he began to walk the other way. Like a mirror of who he wanted to be versus what he was.
As Gyeseong walked back to the palace he visited his little hut something that was filled with little trinkets, make up and accessories he would sneak away from his mother's stuff when people weren't looking. He originally wanted to try and see what it was like but he kept wanting to do it again. Loving the way it made him feel and how it gave him this confidence and comfort he didn't realise he was missing until the days hit that he couldn't dress this way.
Two years passed and he got away with this private part of his life without any worries, his confidence and comfort growing. Even to the point Gyeseong took one of the court ladies hanboks so he could get the feeling of being a woman that society wouldn't recognise, that he wouldn't recognise. So he was no longer a grand prince but instead a lady.
But it was cut short with the whole problems with Y/n and the Queen dowager. It was like a god was condemning Gyeseong for finding this confidence and finally saying it was too much , good thing that he was brought up with the Confucianist beliefs of the Joseon dynasty and didn't believe in a god.
Gyeseong that day felt like his world was collapsing, that he was truly something that didn't deserve the love of others due to the reactions others had on his actions. It really hurt him. It hurt him how Y/n did such a thing when he had trusted her with this secret. But when his mother got him that portrait , it changed something.
