ACT II: Chapter four

✦•┈๑⋅⋯ ⋯⋅๑┈•✦

A new beginning laid out before me—a chance to truly comprehend the unfolding events of this war. This was my opportunity to take a stand, to protect my family at all costs. My dreams had always been a source of warning, but this time, the visions were more urgent and vivid than ever before. I knew in my heart that if I didn't seize this moment to start anew, my family would lose the battle for the war. I would rather sacrifice myself than allow anyone else to bring ruin upon us. In this moment of uncertainty, I found a renewed sense of purpose and resolve, determined to change the course of our fate.

"You want me to believe that my firstborn child, my daughter, my only daughter, would betray me and leave to bend the knee to Aegon?" Rhaenyra exclaimed loudly, her anger uncontrollable. The sounds of Syrax flying above Dragonstone could be heard clearly, adding to the tension in the room. Everyone stood around the council table, eyes wide with shock. The council meeting, which Aelora had called for, was now in disarray.

Aelora had left for King's Landing, her sudden departure had sown seeds of doubt. Rhaenyra's mind raced with the dawning realization: had her daughter truly betrayed her? The notion gnawed at her, for she knew how dire their situation had become.

"How could she do this?" Rhaenyra continued, her voice breaking with a mix of fury and sorrow. "After everything we've sacrificed, after all the bloodshed... she just leaves?"

Daemon stepped forward, trying to calm her. "We don't know for certain that she's betrayed us. There could be another explanation."

Rhaenyra shot him a sharp look. "And what other explanation could there be, Daemon? She knew the risks. She knew what was at stake."

Daemon's face darkened. "Aelora has always been loyal. We can't jump to conclusions."

"And what if she has betrayed us?" Rhaenyra spat back. "What then, Daemon? Do we just forgive her?"

"We must consider all possibilities," Daemon replied, his voice strained. "If we react out of anger, we may lose everything."

Benjicot Blackwood, standing near the back of the room, cleared his throat and stepped forward. "Your Grace," he began, his voice steady, "I was with Aelora before she left. She seemed... troubled. She spoke of needing to find answers, but she didn't mention anything about bending the knee to Aegon."

Rhaenyra's eyes narrowed as she turned her gaze to him. "And where were you when she vanished, Benjicot? Why didn't you stop her?"

Benjicot met her gaze, unflinching. "I was getting our things ready for the journey back to Dragonstone, so we could discuss Verena's dreams with you and the council. When I returned back, she was gone. She didn't confide in me about her true intentions."
