Domonic
"You think this is her?" Domonique questioned as we both looked at her iPad. A month had gone by and we'd decided to go through with finding our mother and Domonique had found her on Facebook.
"It has to be." The woman I was looking at looked like an older version of Domonique and a feminine version of me.
Domonique clicked on her photos scrolling down, stopping on one particular picture. "She has kids." Domonique mumbled, I could hear her trying to keep her emotions together. In the picture was our mother, her husband, and two boy who looked to be around ten and fourteen.
I looked at Dominique, watching as she swallowed down the lump that was in her throat. "Nique." I called softly. She looked over at me.
"She has other kids Domonic. Were we not good enough for her?" I pulled her into a hug as I saw a tear fall.
I clenched my jaw as Domonique cried into my chest. This was the exact reason I thought finding and reaching out to her was a bad idea. I let Domonique cry until she calmed down. Once she was calm I pulled back, looking into her eyes.
"Are you okay?" I questioned. She nodded her head. "Give me words."
"Yes, I'm okay."
"Do you still want to reach out to her?"
"Yes, I need answers." I sighed.
"Alright."
She grabbed her iPad, clicking the message icon. "What should I say?" She questioned.
"Let me see the iPad." She handed the device to me and I began typing.
"Hey, my name is Domonique Mills and I am your daughter. My brother Domonic and I decided to reach out to you because we would like to get to know you."
"What you think?" I questioned showing her the message I typed out.
"I think that's good."
"You want me to send it?" I questioned.
"Yeah."
We both held our breaths as I sent the message. When it was sent, we let out a breath of relief. "Do you think she's going to respond?" Domonique questioned.
"I don't know honestly."
"I hope she does."
"I hope she does too, but if she doesn't it's not the end of the world. We're going to continue living our lives like we've been doing before her."
"Does it not bother you that we don't know our mother?" Domonique cocked her head to the side. I shrugged my shoulders.
"A little." The truth was it bothered me way more than I was letting on, but I wasn't letting Domonique know that. Between Domonique and I, I had to be the strong one. I couldn't let her see that I was just as torn as her.
Domonique reached over giving me a hug. "You don't always have to be so strong for me." I knew that, but I still wasn't going to let her see me completely vulnerable. Only one woman could see that side of me and that was Tiana Foster.
Hours after leaving Domonique I found myself at Tiana's house. When she opened the door for me my eyes skated down her frame. She had on one of those skim lounge sets that hugged every curve perfectly.
"Hey." She smiled.
"Wassup." I entered the house, giving her a hug. She pulled back, reaching up and taking my face in her hands.
"What's wrong?" She questioned.
"Can we sit?" I questioned. She nodded, taking my hand in her small soft one and guiding me over to the couch.
