Tiana

I sighed as I entered the house. My feet were hurting, and I was exhausted. I'd agreed to work a double, which was the worst mistake of my life. I wanted nothing more but to hop in the shower and escape from the world by sleeping.

I made my way into the kitchen, placing my lunchbox on the counter and began unpacking it. The door unlocking caught my attention. I looked toward the door and my mother soon appeared with someone behind her.

"Damn she's your twin." The man behind her spoke, causing me to place my attention on him. He was nice looking I had to admit. He had a nice smooth caramel complexion, looked well over 6'0 with a slim build, his hair was in a low cut with deep waves. He was something nice to look at, but I could tell right away that he was a dope boy. The expensive watch and swagger told it all. The gold grills in his mouth was the icing on the cake.

"Yeah." My mother chuckled. "Tiana this is my friend Red, Red this is my daughter Tiana." She introduced us.

"It's nice to meet you." I gave him a small forced smile.

"Nice to meet you too." He returned the smile before turning to my mother to tell her goodbye. After they said their goodbye's, he was on his way.

"So, is that your boyfriend?" I questioned.

"No, we're just dating right now."

"Mhm." I mumbled.

She placed her hand on her hip. "What?" She questioned, cocking her head to the side.

"Is he a drug dealer?" I questioned.

"Why does what he does matter?"

"You have got to be kidding me." I scoffed.

"What?"

"You literally went to jail for dealing with a drug dealer."

"I didn't go just because I was dealing with him, I was doing illegal things too."

"That's not the point mom. You're on probation, you don't need to be hanging around someone who's involved in illegal activities. Do you want to go back to jail?"

"Of course I don't want to go back, but Red is the first person that I've met since I've been out, and I really like him."

"You like him so much that you're willing to risk your freedom?"

"No, of course not. When we're together he doesn't do anything that could put me in jeopardy of going back to jail."

"You can't be serious right now." I laugh, shaking my head.

"Tiana all I do is go out with the man; I don't see the harm in that."

"Okay mom." I began heading to my bedroom.

"Tiana." She called. I ignored her, shutting my door and going into my bathroom to take a shower.

While in the shower thoughts began to cloud my mind. I began thinking back to when my mother first went to jail. I had been staying at my grandmother's house for three days, without talking to my mother. I knew something wasn't right because whenever I stayed with my grandmother my mother would always call me every evening to see how my day had gone. When I'd decided to finally ask my grandmother what was going on in, she told me that my mother was in jail and that I probably wouldn't see her for a long time. I was sad for days, until my grandmother had decided to take me to visit her. That was my first and last time seeing her as a little girl. My mother had told my grandmother not to come back to see her because she didn't want us to witness her in such a bad state. A month later, my grandmother died from a heart attack, and I was placed into foster care.
