"Alright class! Today we will be sparring using our weapons. Grab your partners and begin!"
Asher's POV
I'm supposed to be centering my magick aura, but I can't stop thinking about Ravyn. She ignored me the whole ride home from the mall and even this morning in Ms. Clemin's class! Dammit Asher what did you do now? I walked around trying to find Ravyn so I can spar with her only to find her and Amethyst at it again. Sigh.
"Yo, Asher!"
I turn around to my best bud Pyrrhos. He's 5'9 with dark skin and maroon eyes. He's incredibly buff and has maroon dreads that stop past his shoulders, but they're up in a bun at the moment. "Yo, Rho! Wassup? Wanna spar?"
"I was about to ask you the same thing! Guess the twins are preoccupied, huh?" He says while grinning. He and Amethyst have a thing but apparently Lolita says Amethyst should hold off on making it official. Rho hates Lolita, but he has reason. I mean, the guy can't even get an entire conversation with Am without Lolita budding in. I pull my mask over my face and get into a fighting stance.
"Yeah, now let's fight before we get in trouble for too much chit-chat."
"Right." Pyrrhos gets into a fighting stance to let me know he's ready and raises his mace and sprints towards me. Ahhhh! His weapon ignites with hot flames on it's spikes and I dodge his swings. I can feel the fire at my finger tips. Swirling around, ready for my next move. Rho keeps swinging his mace at me and when I find an opening I step forward with my hands in position for my spell. "Daggers of Fire!" I miss. Dammit! I keep swinging my daggers of fire while dodging all of Pyrrhos' attacks. That mace in his hand is beyond powerful and heavy, but Rho just whips it around like it weighs less than a pound! Okay, enough with the daggers. "Ignited Sword" my daggers change into a single sword lined with flames and I launch myself at Rho only to have him block my attack. The upside about being a fire enchanter is that you can manipulate fire to do almost anything you want. You don't have to stick to one weapon all the time, and you get a break.
"Ignited Mace!" So we're fighting fire with fire, eh?
"Now this fight is getting heated!" I say smuggly, ready to give my next attack.
"Stop!" Everyone pauses and drops their weapons.
"Damn, just when it was getting good!" Pyrrhos growls and puts out his mace. I do the same and take off my mask and watch what our instructor says next.
"Alright, New rules! No fighting with your element! Everyone change partners!"
Ravyn's POV
Great. Everyone groans and start looking for new partners. Me and Amethyst shrug and part ways. Just as I turn around Asher comes up to me sweating bullets, but smiling that enormous, encouraging smile. Damn him.
"Wanna spar, Ravy?"
I roll my eyes and my claws pop out. They are clear blue skeletal claws that wrap around my hands, the back of them mostly. They have water running through them constantly and are attached to a bracelet that has a single raindrop gem in the middle. The claws can retract into the bracelet making them portable, unlike most weapons. They are a goddess weapon, only the best can control them. Annahita's Claws, our goddess of water. I prepare myself to fight feet apart, claws close. "We gonna fight or what?" I says in a sour tone. Asher is surprised.
"Yeah." He finally responds while putting on his mask, Agnimukha's Mask. Agnimukha is our god of fire. His battle mask gives the wielder the access to 5 legendary fire spells that stopped the Dark Age. It also lets the wielder use regular hand magick. The mask is golden and lightweight, but kinda creepy at the same time, but its legendarily awesome.
He stands straight up then points two fingers towards me. "Fire Pool!" I react.
"Icey Halt!" His flames turn into steam as my wall of ice collides with his swirls of fire and he looks completely dumbfounded. "You gonna gawk at me all day or are you gonna fight?" "Hail storm!"
He regains his composure and dodges my hail balls. "FIRE WALL!" Shit, I can't see him, I hate this little trick of his. I'm surrounded by fire, A WALL OF IT TO BE EXACT. I gotta get out of here. "Rain - " Before I can finish my spell Asher comes at me again.
"Ashes Reign!"
"No, I can't see!" Cough, Cough Ashes are in my eyes and throat and all I can feel is the heat of the fire wall. I'm starting to sweat too. Dammit Asher where are you!? "Water Reign!" I put out the fire wall with my raincloud spell. "Ice Irises." My Ice Irises spell turns my iris to an icey blue color while giving me the ability to sense movement by water. Meaning I can find Asher by sensing his blood flow. "Where are you, hotshot?"
"Right here!"
"Wah?" I quickly turn my head, but I'm too late. Argh! Asher hits me with one of his fire punches and sends me flying back. Oof!
Asher's POV
"Shit!" Oh I really fucked up this time! "RAVYN!" I run over to where I punched Ravyn. She is rubbing her head and trying to get off the ground but immediately falls back on her butt. "I am so sorry Ravyn! I didn't mean to hit you that hard! A-are you okay?"
Ravyn's POV
Dammit. I'm so weak! How can I wield Annahita's Claws and not be able to take a fucking hit!? How can I be an onyx gem and be so powerless!? How could I look so stupid in front of Asher. Sigh "I'm fine." I reluctantly take Asher's hand and stand up.
"Hey, you did well, Ravyn. Plus you surprised the hell outta me with that first attack." he smiles.
I give up my silent treatment. I can never stay mad at Asher.
"Shut up." Usually, I can never stay mad at Asher. "I'm so stupid, I don't even get why I'm able to use these claws! I can't even take a hit!" I vent my frustration as he stares at me and I look around to watch my sister Amethyst. "How. How did my onyx become so weak. Why aren't we equal?" I could cry right now, but I don't cry in public.
{Asher's thoughts}
I know Ravyn. There is a difference. I don't know why, but some how Amethyst is able to withstand rough blows and her attacks have more power. But the claws didn't want her, they wanted Ravyn. Its not fair. When twins are born they are usually given equal power, like the Fidelia twins. Both earth enchanters. Both equal power. Two totally different people. But with them, the Estelle twins, there is a clear line towards who has the most power, but Ravyn has control, technique, and the ability to wield a goddess weapon. Everything that Amethyst doesn't.
"I-I, I don't know, Ravyn." Asher then walks up to me and intertwines our hands together. "But I do know what you're capable of, and I know it seems hopeless now, but you can be strong, stronger than Am, stronger than me. So, please don't beat yourself up, or give up on yourself, because I'm not giving up on you, ever."
And in that moment, as butterflies flutter in my stomach, as my heart rate rises, and as my mind enters a vast clutter of emotions, only one thing is clear to me. This boy, Asher Eth Wryly, has completely and unintentionally captivated my heart.
