Ravyn's POV
"So, he dumped ya for two-shoes?" Calixa asked as we rode to wherever.
"No." She snorted. Here it goes....
"Then what's the problem?" I don't respond and she sighs. "Look Rav, I'm not one for all the mushy gushy stuff, but you're actually in love. I mean, don't you feel that?"
I look at her like she's crazy, oh c'mon I just like the guy. Its not like daydream about him, think about him non stop at night, and all day until the next morning. I mean, well...he is my best friend. "I'm not in love with anyone, I just.....wish he'd take a hint." I finally say.
"Boys are stupid Ravyn. You have to spell it out or you won't get anywhere."
"I guess, maybe I did overreact."
"Maybe? What happened anyway?" She asked as we pulled up to a dark, dreary-like coffee shop. "I hope you like Jetz." She says as she gets out of the car, and I follow her into her favorite store, Jetz Coffee Shop.
Asher's POV
She's not here. It's time for sparring, and Ravyn NEVER misses sparring. But her absence speaks in more ways than one.
"Hey, hot-head!" That can only be Pyrrhos. "Let's spar man, where's Ravyn?" He noticed that Amethyst was sparring with someone other than Ravy. Am said that she got in the car with Calixa. Damn that girl rubs me the wrong way. There's just something off about her, I hope Ravyn is being careful. If she ever got hurt, it would be my fault. I ran her away.
"I don't know." He must've seen the look on my face and decided not to push the issue.
"Well hey, how about a little hand sparring? No weapons, pure spells." He smirks.
"What is this, a set up?" I laughed for the first time that day. Everyone knows that Rho is a fire mancer. Mancers usually stick to hand magick put Rho likes to mix it up by swinging around a huge mace.
"Aw c'mon, ya scared Mr. Enchanted?"
I chuckle. "Alright," suddenly fire began to dance at my finger tips and I took a fighting stance. If Pyrrhos could do anything, he could cheer me up with a good fight, but I was still worried about my Ravy. "Let's dance Rho."
Ravyn's POV
I sipped my cookies and cream shake as I carefully considered Cali's question. "Yes. I do love him, but that doesn't mean I'm IN love."
"Ugh, you're in so much denial it's making me sick!" I raise an eyebrow at her.
"How am I in denial?"
"Come ON Ravyn! First he ditches you at the mall, so you come to my store all depressed, right? Okay. Then he tells you that your study sessions didn't help him so he asked your sister, then you blow up because you were jealous that Lolita was there with him. And today, you burst into tears because he can't tell that you "like" him. That sounds like you're already in a relationship to me."
I could only blink and stay quiet. She was right. I am in love with Asher, and knew it ever since that day in sparring class. Actually before then, when we hugged at his door step. Even when we held hands in the haunted house when we were 13. It was always there. I just chose to ignore it, because I was afraid to be hurt, afraid to lose him....I can't lose him.
"I'm ready to go back now." Calixa smiled her wicked smile.
"Great, this mushy shit is making me queasy." She gets up and walks to the car and I follow.
Asher's POV
Its almost time for detention. And she hasn't shown up yet. Amethyst said she would be here, and that we had to talk this out. Whatever this is. I wish she would tell me what she was feeling.
Just then she came in. Her eyes landed on mine and she actually smiled, God I missed that smile. She sat right next to me and whispered.
"We need to talk."
"I know." I told her. "I'm sorry."
"No, I should apologize."
"No talking!" Dammit! What is it with these assholes today? Ravyn chuckled at my visible frustration and I smile at her. It was like everything was back to normal, me making her laugh all the time, making her happy. That's all I really want.
"I'll be back later, no talking when I leave this room or it's another detention!" Then our teacher walked out. It was just us two, together, and alone.
"Ahem. Asher, I need to tell you something. "
"You have my full and undivided attention." She looked into my eyes and opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again. "Sigh Look Ravyn." I got up from my desk and walked around to hers and kneeled down to look up at her. I grabbed her hands and I just let go.
"You are my best friend Ravyn. You have always been there for me. From staying up with me at night while my mom stayed out, to helping me with my homework. You and Amethyst were always there, but you made something clear to me..."
I stopped there because she was crying again, Ravyn doesn't just cry like this, she's not the type to show her soft side, but she shook her head, telling me to continue. "You made something clear to me Ravyn...a-and that is..." I lightly squeezed her hands, preparing myself for rejection. "I love you, Ravyn, I never meant to hurt you or make you feel unwanted. You're my best friend. Y-you, you mean everything to me and I'm sorry I am just now telling you this, I hate seeing you cry, and......... I just wanted to tell you the truth."
That was it. I let her hands go and I stood up. I knew there was a chance that she'd friend-zone me, but I didn't care I was done lying to her. I had finally confessed, but the pain of rejection was creeping up my face. I turned to walk out but her arms wrapped tightly around my torso, preventing me from taking another step.
Ravyn's POV
"Don't leave me." I hugged him from behind and clawed my nails into his shirt, as if letting go meant he'd be gone forever. "Asher, I'm sorry! I'm sorry for yelling at you, I'm sorry I avoided you, I'm sorry I was jealous, and..."
He turned around in my arms and enveloped me in a hug of his own. Tightly wrapping his arms around my waist and burying his head in my hair.
"Ravyn.....are you saying...?"
I loosened our embrace and looked up at his beautiful fiery eyes, each passing second I fell further and further into a trance. His eyes bore into mine as if he could read every emotion I held in my irises. Our faces were centimeters apart and I couldn't resist. I pressed my lips against his and he immediately responded, cupping my cheeks and moving his lips in sync with mine. The sparks flew, and I couldn't think of anything else. The only thing that mattered now was me and him.
Until the ground began to crack underneath us.
