3:50pm, Saturday
Juliet's smile slowly turned as the train approached Flinders Street station, her nerves building.
If she was being honest, she wasn't fully sure that the last few days had happened.
It just didn't compute.
She'd never made it past a first date.
Well, not for a long time anyway...
And she was on her way to her second date with Fiona.
This was uncharted territory.
What was she supposed to do?
The doors opened and Juliet got off the train, and set off towards the gallery.
As she crossed over the river, she thought about how all her friends had said the same thing: just do what you've been doing, be yourself, etc, etc...
Juliet didn't really know what to make of the advice.
That is what she had been doing all the way through the past few years, and it had netted 3 first dates that all ended pretty much the same way: the other girl saying that she had a lovely time, but they didn't see it going any further.
That's what the nerves actually were about.
Not that anything would go any differently... But that today would go the same as all the others.
She felt more strongly about Fiona than she remembered feeling about all of them.
She tried not to, but she'd imagined her and Fiona being together for a while.
Dreamed about it, to be honest...
Juliet felt stupid about it. She knew she was just getting her hopes up over nothing again...
As she neared the gallery after a few minutes, she reached into one of her many pockets and pulled out the phone that was currently blasting pop punk through her headphones.
Juliet:
Where were we meeting exactly?
As she waited for a response, she took a brief look at her clothes.
The forecast showed today as mild and potentially rainy, so she'd prepared by adding a jacket over her red button-up shirt, black jeans and combat boots.
Like that was a surprise... she basically wore the exact same thing most of the year.
Her phone dinged.
Fiona:
Out the front, between the two fountains
Well, that was where she was currently standing.
"Jules?" Said a voice suddenly.
Juliet jumped a little and looked up to see Fiona's smiling face right in front of her.
She was taken aback by the situation.
"Yeah... I'm... Jules..." She responded, as she struggled to collect herself.
Fiona was even more jaw-dropping in person...
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you..." She said, her smile dropping a little.
"No, no, its ok..." Jules said, finally managing to regain some composure.
They just stood there for a moment.
