7:40pm, Friday
"Hello, Halo girl." Said a mystery voice in a very seductive tone.
The sound stunned and confused Juliet a little.
It had been a few days, but Fiona hadn't sounded quite like that at the speed dating...
"Hi-...hi." Juliet answered gingerly.
"Are there any..." The voice continued seductively. "Gamers here in chat?"
'What the fuck?' Juliet thought.
"Uhhh..." She stuttered, her brain in the midst of a gay meltdown.
The voice burst out laughing.
"Sorry, I have no idea why I found that so funny." Fiona said after she'd regained her composure, the seductiveness in her voice almost completely gone.
Juliet chuckled a little, mostly out of relief.
"Yup..." She said, awkwardly searching for more words.
Fiona didn't turn her camera on, so Juliet didn't either.
The call sat in awkward silence for what felt like a long time.
Juliet never did know what to say...
"So..." Fiona said, finally breaking the silence. "Halo?"
"Yes. That's a video game, I believe." Juliet said without thinking.
Fiona chuckled a little.
"You're cute." She said, with a hint of seductiveness briefly returning to her tone.
The compliment made Juliet squirm in her seat a little bit.
"Oh, I almost forgot..." Fiona said. "There's... someone I want you to meet."
Juliet held her breath in suspense as Fiona's camera feed started to load. After a few seconds, the webcam revealed Fiona sitting at her desk, with a golden retriever in her arms.
"This is Toby." She said with a beaming smile.
Holy shit...
"He's adorable..." Juliet said in response to seeing a very cute dog.
It was true, but that's not what was actually going through Juliet's head as Fiona released Toby from her grasp, and he walked out of frame.
It had been dark at the speed dating, and she hadn't gotten a good look at Fiona's face on her Instagram photos earlier.
She was...
Stunning...
Long clean strands of Auburn hair hung around and in front of her headset, just reaching down to her shoulders.
Her smile was somehow enticing and comforting at the same time...
Somehow, Juliet had completely missed last time that Fiona was at least partly east Asian. Maybe mixed with something vaguely European?
Juliet's brain managed to temporarily break out of its gay envy loop and remind her that she needed to actually do or say something.
Shit...
Now that Fiona had started things by turning on her webcam, and seemed to be keeping it on, Juliet was now kind of obligated to turn on her own as well.
She looked down at herself. She hadn't exactly dressed for a date when she'd gotten home...
At least the only thing that would be visible on her webcam would be a random hoodie that she'd had since she was in high school...
