As hard as she tried, Jules' brain refused to slow down.
Nothing worked.
Thinking hard about going to sleep...
Not thinking at all about going to sleep...
She was still just lying there, alone with her thoughts.
Her mind kept spinning, with all the ways she was definitely going to fuck all of this up...
Jules sighed slightly and rolled over onto her back, her eyes not having nearly enough trouble discerning her surroundings in the dark.
She was back in Fiona's bed, although this time wearing her own pyjamas. She also had a belly full of 2 bowl's worth of a delicious pasta dish Fiona had cooked (cavatelli with broccoli and some sort of green pesto), and a warm fuzzy feeling from having spent the next 2 hours in Fiona's warm embrace on the couch as they watched 'But I'm a Cheerleader'.
Now, lying there without Fiona's hands on her felt weird...
Jules craned her head over to see the hot girl-shaped doona mound on the other side of the bed.
Fucking hell...
She was falling hard for this girl...
Jules jumped out of her skin a little as she noticed that Fiona's half-open eyes were looking right back at her.
Well... Shit.
"You still awake?" Fiona asked with a cute yawn.
Jules didn't know what to say...
Her mind just kept spinning; with all the ways she was going to embarrass herself...
Why had she agreed to all this?
She managed to put out a prolonged "Umm...", hoping it would give her a few more seconds of thinking time.
It didn't help...
Fiona's face turned as her eyes fully opened.
"You feeling ok?" She asked.
The caring tone of her voice had tears welling up in Jules' eyes.
"I don't know..." She quietly conceded.
She felt tiny...
"Cuddle?" Fiona asked.
Jules just sheepishly nodded in response.
Her eyes were locked shut as she felt Fiona's arms gently grip her back and shoulders, and slowly pull their two bodies together.
Jules' brain started turning with another thought.
How she didn't deserve this...
She didn't deserve to have someone like Fiona giving a shit about her...
Jules felt a few tears trail down her face as a gentle voice flowed into her ears.
"I've got you..." Fiona said tenderly.
Jules couldn't help but let out a whispered "Sorry..." in response.
She didn't know why being in Fiona's arms made her feel like crying...
"You have nothing to apologise for." Flowed into her ears, bringing on another handful of tears.
Did her touch make her feel like crying? Or did it make her feel like it was ok to cry?
Her mood must be improving, because her mind was going from worrying about dying of despair to worrying about dying of embarrassment...
What the fuck was going on with her?
