"I am not just jealous. I am dead ass jealous", Daisy laughed at Joanne as she gave her friend her phone back, "South of France is my dream wedding location, just for your information." Daisy took a huge bite out of her burger.
Her brown hair in a fancy updo and still in her court outfit she rejoined Joanne at the apartment. Lina and her girlfriend were traveling the country and Mel was off for a modeling job, so it left the two best friends alone in the shared flat.
"This feels like college all over again", Joanne added, still not having touched her pizza, but pouring herself the third glass of wine.
"So", Daisy teased her nervously, "how is he like? You know, not just in bed. I sincerely hope you two talk as well." Receiving a piercing glance from Joanne, Daisy just smiled in response.
"It's actually very easy. I do not know how to describe it otherwise -" mid sentence she took a bite of her pizza,, but it tasted to bland, so Joanne shrugged her nose in disgust and put the piece pack. "- and I know he will give me the world if I just asked for it. His presence alone makes me feel loved and worshiped, you know?"
Daisy was genuinely happy for her friend, but could read in Joannes eyes as well that there was a but. "But, Kenny? What is your but in the situation?"
Joannes green eyes lingered on the little gold daisy necklace around her friends neck. She always wars this stupid necklace.
"I think the but is you, Kenny", Daisy finished for her friend, as Joanne made no sign of continuing. "Your stubbornness. You believing you do not deserve this. You searching already for ways how this could get massively wrong, so if it gets wrong you are already prepared." Daisy then indulged in one of the slices of pizza that lay lovelessly on the plate. "Damn, I should have been a psychologist, I could have earned a golden nose with you."
Joanne just rolled her eyes, secretly agreeing with what the pretty brunette just said. "Is Lina really going through with the baby thing or was it just a momentary confusion?" She tried to shift the conversation. Daisy's phone flashed, a new message.
"Only you see a baby as momentary confusion, Jesus Kenny."
"What else should it be?" Joanne shrugged her shoulders and started to roll a cigarette for herself.
"Maybe a long term commitment between people who love themselves?" Daisy starred at her phone as she answered calmly. "Sorry, I have to go back to the office. You coming too?", she quickly finished her glas of wine.
Joanne denied, "no, I have a meeting with Alec and then at the bank. Are you home tonight?"
"Nope, date night. Thursday is always date night."
Joanne nearly forgot, Daisy was still with the dutch guy, what was his name again?
Daisy gave her a quick kiss on the cheek as she said goodbye and almost stormed out of the flat.
The blonde left behind let a loud moan escape her lips before lighting her cigarette. Since when was she such a bad friend? She was so preoccupied with her life and her supposed problems that she didn't even really know what was going on with her friends?
She just left the things at the table and poured herself a to-go cup of wine, which she had earned. Armed with her wine in one hand and her work bag in the other, she slipped into her Birkenstocks and left the flat.
Bevor heading to the appointments she took the time to quickly grab some flowers of a roadside stand and headed for the cemetery. It had been too long since she had visited her father.
Somehow, the cemetery managed to block out the noisy city, she occasionally saw people sitting and a funeral was taking place a little further back. The cosy feeling immediately formed in her as she stepped up to the grave and laid down the flowers.
"Hi dad," she mumbled under her breath, "long time no see." There was a time when she spent a lot of time here, hoping it would alleviate her problems. In some ways it probably did. Slowly, she sat down on the stone bench and looked at the flowers. Every time she was here, she was suddenly that little six-year-old girl again, holding her crying grandmother's hand.
With Toto, everything was actually kind of easy, but she didn't know if she had the mental capacity to deal with everything around him at the moment.
Her eyes wandered towards the burial a bit further back. It was silent, no one spoke, no one mourned. Just the casket being lowered, no one seemed to care enough to attend.
Slowly, she pulled the gold ring off her ring finger. The inscription immediately caught her eye every time. Her grandmother gave her, her grandfather's wedding ring on that day back then.
The sound of her mobile phone snapped her out of her thoughts. When she answered, Alec's voice immediately rang out: "Where are you? The meeting is starting now. Everyone's here. Now, really now. Jeez, Joey."
Joanne let out a little sigh. "I'll be there in 15 minutes."
She was just about to put it back in her bag when a message from Toto flashed up.
toto You, me, Monza race. No argument. 10-12th September. Can't wait to see you again.
