More Than Friends

Shadow's POV

I blinked a couple of times. "Ug, where am I?" I groaned. I felt around, the grass was underneath me. I was leaning against a tree. Did I sleep here last night? I had the most bizarre dream, that guy who chases me was here talking to me, and I showed him...the stars.

I got up realizing it was about 10:30 in the morning. This isn't usual, I always wake up early. Why so late now? I stretched by a sharp pain shot through one of my arms. "Argh..." I groaned. I looked down at it. There was a small bandaid over it. I removed it. I had gotten injected with something. I don't feel anything different, so I don't need to worry about it.

Sonic's POV

I wonder if Shadow's awake yet. That injection takes affect for many hours. What if he remembers what happened last night? He probably won't. It's not like he knows what hit h-

"Hey Blue..." I heard. I turned around and there he sat eating a pear.

"What are you doing out here? You want them to chase you early in the morning?" I asked him. He chuckled.

"You know, I had this dream where I took you to the other side of the wall and showed you the stars and...we talked." He said.

"That has nothing to do with right now." I told him. "Plus why would I care?"

"Oh, but it sounds like you care. You let me finish telling you." He said.

"I don't like being rude." I told him. Suddenly pain shot through my back. He had pushed me against the wall. He brought a knife to my neck.

"Listen up nice guy, you did something to me last night." He said in a voice that showed anger.

"I-I don't know what you talking about..." I squeaked as I felt the knife press against my neck.

"Really? Why would I find this on the forest floor? What did you do? What did you put in me? You did something to me because I cannot get you out of my head." He said.

"Listen, I didn't do anything. I just-"

"There! Get him!" I heard Knuckles. Shadow removed the knife and ran away. "No, not this time." Knuckles took out a blaster.

"Wait-" He pulled the trigger. Shadow fell to the ground. Was he dead? I saw him struggling to brake free from a net?

"Sonic get him!" Knuckles told me. I ran over to Shadow. I noticed he was trying to cut his way out. When I got there he was already on his feet.

"Don't touch me." He threw the knife at my feet, and disappeared.

"He has a chaos emerald! He has an emerald!" Knuckles yelped. "Tell Master about this!" He said to two other soldiers. They ran inside the base. "Sonic! Get over here." He ordered. I ran over to him. "What was that he threw at you?" He asked. I stretched my hand out and showed him the knife. He took it. "What did he say to you?"

I sighed.

Shadow's POV

"Oh Choas, why are you doing this to me?" I said as I laid in the hamic with one arm over my eyes and a leg hanging from the hamic. That guy I could get him out of my head. My mind begged me to go see him again. Those emerald eyes were the most beautiful things my eyes have ever seen.

I felt tingly and weird around him. "I think it's time to see her again..." I moaned. I never went to see her, unless it was urgent or important. I gathered a couple of things and put them in my satchel. I closed my eyes and appeared in Möbius when I opened them. I shouldn't be far from her.

It wasn't long before I came across her place. I moved a side the blanket that hung from a door way.

"For the last time, I don't have any money- Oh hey honey." She smiled.

"Hey Rouge." I hugged her. She was like a mother to me. I removed my shoes and walked to her dark room. I sat on a small red pillow with my legs crossed. She sat across me. A small table sat between us. There was a cloth and candles placed on the table.

"So tell me, what's bothering you?" She asked pouring some tea in a small cup with no handle. It was hot, I could tell from the steam coming from it.

"Well you see, these scouts have been chasing me, and there's this one that always seems to follow me-"

"Tea?" She asked.

"What? Um...oh yes. Thanks you. Anyway, he always tracks me down to the wall-" She choked on her tea. He put he cup down.

"I'm sorry did you say the wall?" She asked.

"Yes, so once I get to it he always lets me go over it-"

"Shadow, tell me...is it beautiful out there?" She asked.

"It's more than beautif- You know that's a story for later. I just wanted to tell you-"

"Take me with you." She said. I put down my cup.

"Excuse me?" I asked.

"Take me over the wall. I want to see everything. I bet the grass is green and there are trees-"

"Rouge slow down. I can't take anyone over it or at least many people-"

"Why?" She asked.

"Because if I do, I'll loose everything I have. You don't know how that feels now do you?" I asked. She sighed.

"I'm sorry. I just want everything to go back to normal. I've been hearing rumors that women are not gonna be allowed to work at the factories anymore, if I don't have a job I don't have money...and with no money I don't have food." She said. I opened my satchel and handed her my wallet. "What's this?"

"Take it. I practically don't need money." She smiled.

"Thanks Hun. Now what was it that you wanted to tell me?" She asked.

"I don't know what's wrong, but I'll just tell you right now. There's this scout that crossed the wall, i don't know how but he did...and he did something to me. I...I can't get him out of my head. I want to see him every second I get, it makes my heart feel twisted." She chuckled. "What?"

She sighed with a smile. "You, Shadow...are in love." She said. In love? What's that?

"In love?" I asked.

"Love is a deep affection that is caused by something or someone." She said. I tilted my head. "Like the feeling you had for her..." She said. My eyes widen.

"No, it can't be! He's trying to kill me. I had this dream where I showed him the stars and, and-"

"Calm down... Breathe. Now, it's not bad. It's just that your heart is showing you that there is still a small opening in the cage you've locked yourself in." She said.

"But Rouge. I can't let this happen, I promised I wouldn't love again." I told her. Put my cup down and got up. "Thank you for your cooperation, but now I must leave." I said before I appeared on the other side of the wall.

I can't let this happen...no, not like this. Don't listen to your heart, it's deceiving...
