Chapter 10

Riley's POV:

We got back to campus, the familiar sights and sounds making me feel at ease. Val walked me back to my dorm, our hands still intertwined. I insisted on her staying, and luckily she agreed, unlike last time when she had made some excuse about needing to study.

As we reached my door, I fumbled with the keys for a moment, nervous excitement making my hands a bit shaky. Val noticed and gave my hand a reassuring squeeze.

"Need some help there?" she teased gently.

"I got it," I replied with a smile, finally managing to unlock the door.

We stepped inside, and I flicked on the lights, the small space suddenly feeling warm and inviting. Val looked around, taking in the familiar surroundings. She'd been here plenty of times, but tonight felt different. Special.

"Make yourself comfortable," I said, gesturing to the couch.

Val nodded and sat down, looking a bit more relaxed. I grabbed a couple of sodas from the mini-fridge and handed one to her before sitting down beside her.

"Thanks," she said, popping the tab and taking a sip.

For a few moments, we sat in comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's presence. The events of the evening played back in my mind, and I couldn't help but feel a giddy excitement about what was to come.

"So," I began, breaking the silence, "do you think we should tell our friends about us?"

Val looked thoughtful for a moment, then shook her head. "Not yet. I kind of like having this just for us, you know? It feels... special."

"I feel the same way," I agreed, feeling relieved. "Besides, I want to enjoy this without everyone else getting involved and making it a big deal."

Val chuckled. "Yeah, they can be pretty nosy."

We both laughed, thinking about our friends' inevitable reactions. They would definitely have a lot to say, but for now, it was nice to keep this new development between just the two of us.

"Let’s just take it one day at a time," Val said, her tone gentle. "We’ll tell them when the time feels right."

"Deal," I said, holding out my pinky finger.

Val laughed and linked her pinky with mine. "Deal."

We sat back, and I leaned against her, feeling the warmth of her body next to mine. It felt so natural, so right. I closed my eyes for a moment, savoring the peace and contentment that washed over me.

Val smiled back and wrapped her arm around me, pulling me closer. I rested my head on her chest, feeling the steady rhythm of her heartbeat. It was soothing, like a lullaby, and I felt my eyelids growing heavy.

But I gave her a kiss on the cheek, and she returned one on my lips. I savored every moment of it; her lips were sweet.

I could stay awake, so I drifted off to sleep, I felt Val’s hand gently stroking my hair. It was the last thing I remembered before sleep claimed me completely, a sense of absolute peace and happiness enveloping me.

Val's POV:

Riley's breathing slowed, becoming deep and steady, and I knew she had fallen asleep. I smiled, feeling a profound sense of contentment wash over me. This night had turned out better than I could have ever imagined.

Careful not to wake her, I adjusted myself slightly, making sure she was comfortable. Her head rested on my chest, and her arm was draped across my waist. The warmth of her body against mine was the most comforting feeling in the world.

I looked down at her sleeping face, her features soft and peaceful in the dim light. She looked so serene, and I felt a surge of affection for her. It was hard to believe that just a few hours ago, we were both nervously wondering how to confess our feelings. Now, everything felt so right, so perfect.

My own eyes grew heavy, the sound of Riley's steady breathing and the warmth of her body beside me lulling me into sleep. "Night, Riley," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

In that moment, everything felt right. I knew that whatever the future held, we would face it together. With that comforting thought, I fell into a deep, restful sleep, holding Riley close.
