"So why were you at the airport?" Edaline asked.

Keefe proceeded to tell them the events leading up to the escape.
"Oh, honey...I'm so sorry."

Ugh. Keefe hated those words. People always said it to him....and he didn't know why.

"Well...now what?" Grady asked.

"I guess...could we stay with you for a bit? I mean...if it's alright with you." Sophie asked.

Grady smiled. "It's alright with us."

Time skip~~

"Sophie...we have something to ask you." Edaline said, coming into Sophie's room with Grady in tow.

"Uh, ok." Sophie said.

"We'd like to know if you'd...well...consider letting us adopt you. I'm sorry it's sudden, and I understand if you want to trial it first, but-"

"Are you kidding?! Yes!! Yes yes yes!!" Sophie shouted and hugged her new parents.

Grady and Edaline left to fill out the forms right away. Keefe came in Sophie's room.

"Hey...did they just ask you if you want to get adopted? By them?" He asked.

"Yeah! I'm so excited, Keefe! I'll-I'll have parents again...what's wrong?" Sophie saw the disappointment on Keefe's face. He had tried to hide it, but...

"I...I don't know. If you get adopted...we won't get separated, right?" Keefe asked, looking at the ground.

"Keefe. Of course not. We're staying together, ok? If you don't leave, I won't. Deal?"

"Deal." Keefe said, then kissed her for a while.

Ring, ring

Keefe picked up his phone.
"It's...my dad." He said, surprised. "Why would he be calling?"

"Keefe. I...I need to tell you something.."

"Y-yeah?"

"It's about your mum. I only just found this out a couple months ago...she joined a rebel organisation. They've done some pretty bad stuff."

"Like what?"

Well...like knocking over the twin towers."

Sophie let out a small gasp.
"She was in on that?" Keefe asked.

"I-I don't know, Keefe. Like I said, I only found out a few months ago."

"Oh. Uh, ok. Is...is she coming back?"

"I don't think so, Keefe. I'm sorry. Everyone thought she was dead. That plane she went on...it crashed. I never told you. I'm sorry."

Keefe felt like he was a kite spiralling out of control. He was dizzy. He gripped Sophie's hand for support.

His mum....a criminal. A wanted criminal, too.

"Keefe." Sophie said. "Look at me."
Keefe looked at her, shock still etched on his face.
"I'm here for you."

Then Keefe broke down sobbing. The couple hugged each other, comforting each other.

Eventually Keefe fell asleep, and Sophie's voice echoed in his dreams.
"I'm here for you, Keefe. I always will be."

~Years later~

"Come on! We're almost there!" Keefe shouted, racing ahead.

"Uuuugh...keeeeefeee! Waiiiiit!" Sophie shouted after him.

Today was the day. Keefe had gotten Sophie up early to climb a mountain. Why? He wanted it to be special.
Because today was the day he was going to propose.

Keefe waited at the top of the mountain for Sophie. When she came, she let out a small gasp.

"Woah...that sun rise...it's beautiful."

"Almost as beautiful as you." Keefe smiled then got down on one knee.

"Sophie, the day I first met you, I fell in love with you. Not just your pretty face, but also your fun, sweet personality. I love you, Sophie. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I want to grow old with you. I want to be with you when your happy, sad, angry, whatever. I know you are the one I love, the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. Sophie...will you marry me?" I asked, then revealed the diamond ring I had bought a couple of days earlier.

"Keefe...oh, yes yes yes!! I do want to marry you!" Sophie cried and hugged me tight.
And I kissed her.

Oh, man.
I can't wait for the wedding.
