• • •El pulled Samuel by his hand, dragging him across the Glade, heading to the place that Newt had explained they'll meet the mysterious Neils to them earlier and El was clearly in a hurry.
Running a few minutes late, she tried to speed up, but Samuel had had enough. "You aren't that pretty to be this lazy" she groaned, letting go of his hand and turning to look him blankly in the eyes.
Samuel, covered in sweat and exhaustion still etched on his face, didn't give a single damn. His annoyance was palpable, etched into every line of his face as he bit back. "And you aren't even a bit pretty to be this dumb."
El just rolled her eyes, choosing to ignore his attitude as she started walking again. Samuel, not having much choice, followed her reluctantly. They soon arrived at a small green plot of land, filled with a variety of vegetables and plants.
The tall boy scanned the area, his eyes taking in the neatly arranged rows of plants, the rich green hues a welcome sight amidst the chaos of his thoughts. He trailed slowly behind El, who was already chatting with Neils, her face lighting up with a smile.
Despite his irritation, Samuel couldn't help but feel a small sense of relief at the sight of El's genuine smile.
He looked around and saw that the garden was a small energy of calmness, the plants swaying gently in the breeze. The sun cast a warm glow over the scene, shining over the vibrant colors of the vegetables and flowers that were placed all around.
As he approached, he overheard bits of their conversation, El's voice cheerful as she spoke about the how annoyed she was, which Neils only nodded along, adding his nothing into the conversation with a smile.
Samuel walked over to them, interrupting the 'lively' chat they were having. "I expected you to not come after the state I've seen you in" Neils called out, finally noticing Samuel's presence. "You honestly never forget to surprise me." Realizing that Samuel was not in the best mood for conversation, Neils quickly turned his attention back to El.
"I'm going to be honest with you two," Neils began, his voice quieted down. "There's not much to do around here since everyone younger prefers to work here. But one of you can grab some seeds and join my little boy over there." He gestured towards a young boy tending to a row of plants, his small hands carefully patting down the soil around freshly planted seedlings.
The boy noticing the attention he got from the teenagers, he turned to them with a bored expression, barely acknowledging their presence before nodding at Neils. Neils, understanding the signal, nodded back with a thumbs up.
Both El and Samuel looked at them with questioning expressions, clearly confused by the silent interaction. Neils noticed their puzzled looks and turned back to them to explain. "Your senior, Elliot, is saying he likes you, Samuel. So, I'll take El and bring her to the other side. Take care!"
