A vast plain.
No ground beneath you, no air in your face. A sea of comfortableness.
You felt no pain. Nothing felt wrong. It was where you needed to be. If you could remember what was in the before, it would be now. What was it again?
But this bed of clouds and stars, you did not want to move. This was pure bliss.
It was quiet too.
Serene.
Who would want to leave this?
Happiness trickled down your head, over your soul and seeping out onto the pool of zen below you.
You could stay here forever.
A heartbeat. Bump. Bump. Bump.
"(Y/n), can you hear me?"
Ears ringing, a sense of alertness. The zen was gone.
"I got a pulse now, let's push it!"
Suddenly, it felt like you were drowning, at the bottom of a sea that you desperately tried to swim up to. Fear came back in its full force, a need to breathe stronger than ever before. The clouds disappeared from underneath you, as did the sense of complete contentment.
...I close my eyes and I keep seeing things...
Spike couldn't feel his arms. He could not feel the blood caked on his face, or the aches in his feet. It did not matter to him, as the only thing he felt was the love he had for you. You were so still on the ride back to the nearest hospital, your face pale and body limp from the fight.
"Are you sure this is the quickest way-" Jet began, his focus trailing back and forth between the airway and the sight behind him.
"Yes, we're almost there!" Faye shot back, her maneuvering between floating vehicles smooth despite the dangerous situation.
He sat in the carrier, watching your shallow breaths grow longer and far in between. His hands were bloody as he held pressure on the deep gash in your shoulder, hating to see how you were almost drained of life. He mumbled small words of encouragement, telling you all he had ever wanted to say when you were back at the Bebop.
"You're stubborn." He whispered. "It always annoyed me how you refused to find any other way to do something, but it was your own. You never strayed off the path much, did you?"
Your eyes twitched.
"And you're so brave. My girl is so brave, and strong." He muttered, his hand on your cheek. You were cold.
"She's going to make it." He heard Faye say from the side, her face contorted in worry. If it was not obvious that taking down a syndicate was an indication of the feelings Spike had for you, it was right now.
Faye was around the crew enough to know that when he was stressed, he made everyone know it. This was the highest form of a stressful situation, and he just...approached it. With ease.
On a ground that fell beneath him, he looked to the rope he was dangling off of and claimed clarity.
(Y/n) could not die.
If she did, Spike Spiegel would go with her.
"We're here!" In an instant, the hatch came open and Spike carried you in his arms. The next moments were a complete blur for him.
Tubes. Nurses running around, doctors deciphering what needed to be done. And Spike in the corner, his hand on his mouth and his mind locking in what was happening before him.
