As I stepped out into the open air, a gust of wind blew past us, making Melody's hair flutter gently. I watched as each tendril of her hair danced in the breeze, her locks seeming to catch the sunlight and glimmer just for a moment.
Her slender figure walked with grace and poise, and she walked in confident strides. I walked a couple of feet behind her, my eyes fixed on her every move.
Suddenly, a sound of crunchy footsteps approached us from behind. "Excuse me! Sir, can you give me a minute of your time?!"
Both of us stopped in our tracks, I turned around only to see a short middle aged man, in a wrinkled baby blue shirt, and his half-bald head was almost reflecting the sunlight. Which was kinda funny to be honest. He was panting and had both his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath.
The man slowly stood back up straight, He had his eyes fixed on me, his gaze traveling up and down my body in an uncomfortable way. It was as if he was sizing me up, examining every inch of my appearance, I felt really uncomfortable so I instinctively took a step back.
It was that look again, that disgusting look humans gave me...
He took a step closer, his gaze locking onto mine like a hawk staring down its prey. "Ah, there you are," he said with a sleazy smile.
"What do you want from me?" I asked, my tone guarded and firm.
Melody raised an eyebrow and took a step ahead from me. "Yes, we're in a hurry, make it quick."
The man raised his palms up in mock surrender. "Oh, I merely wanted to speak with your friend here for a moment, that's all."
He smiled, his gaze locking onto mine again, I felt disgusted so I leaned back, trying to make some space between us. "I'm a fashion designer, you see. And I have an eye for talent. And this young man here has the kind of looks and physique that could make him a star in the industry.."
My breath caught in my throat, only now I realized that people around me were also looking and whispering. And again I was the center of attention.
And not in a good way!
The man crossed his arms over his bloated stomach, his eyes gleaming. "You have that certain...je ne sais quoi...that could really take the fashion world by storm."
What on earth was this man bragging about!?
Suddenly, I felt Melody's hand grab mine and she pulled me away from him, ready to leave. "No thanks, he's clearly not interested." her tone was a bit sharp. Which kinda caught me off guard.
The man's expression darkened slightly, but he quickly put his smile back on. "What if I said I'll pay you 40k dollars?"
That made us stop in our tracks. I felt my eyes widen, and I turned to look at the man in disbelief.
"40K..?" I repeated, not quite believing my ears.
The man smirked, clearly knowing he had our attention now. "Not only that, we'll even offer you a special place to stay in. Modeling is not that hard you know."
My mind was racing a million miles per hour.
40 thousand?!
And a place to stay?
Wait, modeling..?
I had no idea what that was, but the money and the idea of a place to stay did sound tempting...
Though something felt off about this guy. His eyes... they had something in them that made me really uncomfortable.
But I needed the money. I needed a job. If I got this, my whole life would change to the best, humans are stupid, and they would do anything for a pretty face.... The only thing that'll be left is finding the heart and be a full human. That's not gonna be hard right?
