*TW/DEATH*

"He won't miss this."

Bonnie glares at her husband. "I don't believe you. This is so typical of Derek." She snaps and grabs dirty paper plates from the counter.

"He promised Rett, he will be here." Mark repeats again. For the 100th time. In the last half hour.

"He should never have promised our son anything. He's unreliable and an ass. It's his birthday, for crying out loud! He's 6, Mark, he remembers everything." She throws the trash bag into the bin and washes her hands quickly. "And I'm going to have to be bad cop and tell him uncle Dee isn't coming because he's a fucking-"

"Hey!" Mark says loudly and smiles as the front door opens and Meredith walks in with Zola and Bailey.

She smiles, flustered. "Hi. We aren't too late, are we?"

"Not at all." Bonnie forces a smile and takes the toddler from Meredith's hip. "Take her straight out, there's a bounce house and a bunch of food."

"Oh, fabulous combination." Meredith jokes as she heads out with Zozo.

Bonnie gives Mark a stern look and follows, smiling gently as Zola runs right to Everett - those two are inseparable. She takes a seat beside the other parents and Meredith, letting Bailey down to explore.

"Have you heard from him?" Meredith asks, her eyes on the kids currently at the top of the slide.

Bonnie exhales slowly. "Nope. He got the hint when I stopped replying."

"He's cheating on me."

Bonnie's eyes snap to Meredith. "What?"

Mer looks over and smiles small. "Yep. One of the women on the project."

"How do you know?" Bonnie's hearts in her throat - how could he? It doesn't sound like him, not entirely...

"I just know. I mean, I'm technically the one he cheated on Addison with and now he's doing the same again. Its a pattern." Meredith shrugs small.

"It..." Bonnie is a little stumped for words. Derek wouldn't... but he sort of would, he has before.

They both go silent for a while and tend to the children. Bonnie takes Phe inside and settles her for a nap. As she stands patting her back - yes, someone has to do that until she's asleep - she dials Derek.

'Hey it's Derek, you know what to do'

Bon speaks in a hushed tone as she leaves a message. "Please tell me it isn't true. You aren't like that, D, cmon. Because... because if it's true, you aren't the man I thought you were." She hangs up and sighs, throwing the phone onto the armchair in the corner as she keeps leaning on the crib.

It's the next day before she realises she left her phone there. She grabs it and slips it on charge while sorting the laundry. When she checks it, she sees several missed calls from Meredith.

She tucks it between her ear and shoulder as she folds laundry. "Hey, I left my-"

"Derek's dead."

The monotonous, cold tone doesn't register in Bons head. "What?" She says after a moment, dropping the laundry and yanking the charger from the phone.

"Derek. Is dead." Meredith says again.

For several seconds, Bonnie's heart stills before it leaps at 100x it's normal rate. "No- he can't- no you- no." She takes a shaky breath. "No he isnt, Meredith."

"I signed the forms. They extubated him a few hours ago." She swallows hard. "Braindead."

Bonnie sinks to the floor as her breathing quickens. "He-he..."
